Push Starting EFI Harley?
« on: October 20, 2014, 04:43:18 PM »

Seems I've seen the answer to my question on this forum, but couldn't find it today.  Just got back from Biketoberfest and saw some guys trying to push start a Harley Ultra with EFI.  They were unsuccessful, even though the battery had enough juice to send fuel because you could hear the fuel injectors working.  Is it even possible under these circumstanse to push start or is there something else that would prevent the bike from starting?

We push started one 2 years ago going to sturges. Stop at a rest area went to leave starter took a crap you have to get it going pretty fast. Also left ign on along with lights on my tri-glide not enough juice to turn it over we where on a hill coasted down let clutch out fired right up. You might want to be in 3rd gear I think both times that is what we did.

You probably heard the fuel pump rather than the injectors.  IRONHORSE and I push started UFOHOG's SERG during our Carmel GTG due diligence so I know it can be done.    :huepfenlol2:

You can also jump start a bike from any vehicle with a 12 volt system, including my F-150.  Don't ask.    :coolblue:

Not G rated, and certainly not for the easily offended, but wow is it funny!

Nothing too interesting.  In 2007, I shattered my left leg and the metal the doctors inserted was infected.  Had five surgeries over nine months.  I couldn't ride for most of the year.  Had to jump start both my Titan and '04 RG.  Used my truck.   :2vrolijk_21:

I have push started 3 bikes. They all had enough power to run the pump. Put the bike in 2nd gear and try to find a little down hill. Worked first time on all 3 bikes Billy
