Using '08 heads on an '07

Hey folks. I've been away for awhile.....(couple years I think!)
Long story, you know that character building stuff.

Anyways, the 110" ate it's third pump, this time it's terminal.
I am looking for a quick fix and found a nice, complete '08 twin cam that I want to fit into my '07.
What is the deal with the front head? Can the '08 fit the older '07 but not the other way around?
Can the head be drilled and tapped?
I don't have the parts in front of me so I of course I thought I would pop back in here and ask the experts.

You can run 08 heads on an 07 without modifications. 

To run 07 heads on an 08 and up, they need to be machined for the front upper motor mount.   :2vrolijk_21:

To run 07 heads on an 08 and up, they need to be machined for the front upper motor mount.

Can be done but on the 07 110 heads this machine work cuts into fins to get it done. Functional just does not look factory to the close eye. 06 OEM casting cast by "P" foundry in 05 same deal
Not so on the 07up OEM head they had made provisions for the mounts in the 07 MY.

Crap!!

The replacement ending I found is an '09 NOT an '08!

Does the '09 front head still fit the '07 top engine mount or do I need to continue my search for a cheap twin cam??

Does the powdercoating match?  The 07s were black and 08s were granite.

The 2009 CVO still uses the 2008 front cylinder head.  However, as noted by Jester Whisperer, it is granite color instead of black.

Opps, I forgot to mention I'm noit being fussy on the replacement engine.
A 96" is what I'm looking for.
Found a '08 and now just found a '09 96". Cheap and way more reliable.
Mill the heads a bit, clean up the valves and pick a drop in cam and a way I go...
Oh ya, of course some 103" pistons.

with you having a 07 bike...you can use any 07 up A model motor. 08 and up will have the motor mount thread in the front head,you dont need it so it dosent matter if it is there or not.
lots of 96 and 103 low mile motors out there right now.
wurk truk a member here has a low mile 2010 motor for 1200.00 also

I found a local 2009 96" with less than 6000 miles..
Perfect replacement!!
Now I just have to make it a 103" and cam it without spending a fortune.

Thewrenching will be done by me in a borrowed shop in Edmonton.
No idea on who to use for the cylinder boring and headwork.
Suggestions?
