Greetings from the lone star state
« on: April 08, 2007, 11:06:50 PM »

I have been lurking for a few days now. This site has informed and entertained me. After many years
on Gold Wings and numerous sport bikes I have been bitten by the Harley bug. I went with my friend
to a dealership just to humor him. He has been in love with the Heritage for about a year. I had set
my sights on a Yamaha FJR. Didn't want a new Barcolounger, and the Honda ST1300 didn't appeal
to me. I sat on a bunch of different bikes with him and admired the workmanship, but found the
riding positions to foreign to me. I tried the Electra Glide and found it cramped and the front felt
heavy. Then, I sat on a Road Glide. It felt like the riding position of my old 1982 Gold Wing. The
frame mounted fairing was perfect. Seating was great, and the floorboards sat right where I wanted
them. The cobalt blue or black cherry seemed to call my name. Then I saw a 2001 SERG. Black cherry
with all the bells and whistles. So now my dilemma. Buy a 2007 and build it, or a used SERG and play
with the transmission and motor a bit? I am new to HD but have been a motorhead for all of my life.
The amount of goodies on the SERG is amazing. So, can I make a used bird run with the 2007 pack?
And is it worth the effort? Opinions and thoughts are requested. My thoughts on either bike are to
go with an air cleaner, high flow exhaust, a 103 kit, and the Thundermax Autotune system.

JB,
Welcome to the site glad to have you join us. :2vrolijk_21:

Hopefully Otis will see this thread and give you some insight on how a SERG can perform, and what you need to do to it to make it perform. I can tell you Otis has one of the nicest SERG I've seen and it runs like a raped ape. It's been known to spank a few 120ci motors. You might want to shoot him PM just in case he doesn't see this post. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Welcome to the site!  A friend of mine has a SERG for sale.  I'll go back and get the thread and post it for you.

If I did this right, the link below should take you to the thread on the 2001 SERG:

Thanks for the welcome

I appreciate the welcome. I look forward to learning more about the Harley Davidson
history and engine design. Gotta get used to lower rpm and torque. Kinda like going
from a gas engine truck to a diesel engine truck. And thanks for the link to the SERG
for sale. I need to make up my mind on new vs. used but that blue is really hard to
resist. The more I read the more think that the Road Glide is the right choice. When
I get a free Saturday, I think I will go rent one for a day. The dealer has a special
right now of $75.00 for the big twins.

JB,
Before I bought my SEUC I was on an '02 Deuce. I went to the dealer for the 20k service and rented an Ultra for the weekend. What a difference it was from the Deuce! I was sold on a big bike. Once I had my mind made up, I went in search for which one. The rest is history or as HUBBARD would say: there endth the lesson.

Welcome to the site.

If I was looking for a bike and open to a Road Glide I sure would have to consider this one if it is available.

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=11865.0  it's a 2003, check out how custom it is.

Thanks for the Link. :2vrolijk_21:

The bike is available.

My 07 SE Ultra is in and should be ready for pick-up this week.

I have used my Road glide for puttering around town, and has made every Annual February trip to Florida from 2004-2007.

Most of the miles are from the Florida Runs.

Its a great bike and deffinatley one of a kind as far as Road Glides Go.

PM me if you are intersted.

Thanks

:welcome_005: lonestarmedic, lots of different opinions here.  I'm going to guess most CVO owners favor the bling, just a hunch  :bananarock:

Quite a few Road Glide owners here.  Spiderman just bought a Road Glide and he kinda CVO'd it a bit, well, quite a bit.  Buy what made your heart feel good about it and customize to your hearts content.  A Great Big CVO Welcome to this fantastic site.   :bananarock: :huepfenjump3:
