I noticed the round cover on my air cleaner had rotated so before tightening it up I pulled the football shaped cover off to take a look at the filter . This is the first time I have taken it off because the bike just hit 1000 miles. There are three screws holding the filter and backing plate to the throttle body. Two of those screws had backed completly out and had been vibrating against the inside of the outer cover. I dont think there were ever tightened at the factory.

I had the same problem on mine,  I found that two of the three screws were backed  out when I removed the cover to put the SE air cleaner kit on. The instructions for the SE kit say to use blue loctite
