Chubby 575's
« on: September 30, 2009, 02:46:52 PM »

Can these bars be installed on an 09 SERG without lengthening the appropriate cables and wires? Thanks

The 575's are meant for the Electra Glide (they are much wider at the base). I would recommend the 515''s (10." apes) They are similiar to the 575's in height and pullback and work well on the RG's. Stock cables will work with minor re-routing.

Jim,

Will the 515's also work on a 2000 FLTR?

Thanks,

john

Yes, but you will most likely need all new cables (clutch, brake, throttle, & idle)

John, the 515s are what I put on my 2000.  Clutch cable worked with a little rerouting.  Throttle and idle cables worked; but with zero length to spare.  Brake line had to be replaced.

Later replaced them all to ease the alignment and because I was dissatisfied with the appearance of how they ran.  But the clutch and throttle/idle cables did work as they were for 5000 miles or so.

This was with the bars pulled down a bit, closer to me to increase the pullback.  Had I left them more vertical (more ape-like) I'm sure the throttle and idle cables wouldn't have worked and the clutch cable would've been tight.
