I went to go for a ride today and the left grip was sticky. The right one is fine. Has anyone had this problem? And what can be used to clean it. So far Dawn soap, WD-40, and Hoppes #9 hasn't worked. Any good ideas? Thanks

Make sure the grip isn't pushed in to the end of the handlebars. If the end of the throttle tube is rubbing on the end of the handlebar, it will stick. Should be able to "move" the throttle grip back and forth just a bit.

s100 and high pressure wash works for me ... only last for a lill while then needs done again. not sure why it happens, was told oils in the skin, sun block ?? my grips are worn to the point they need replaced, thats on the winter project list
-
Whoops, didn't catch it was the left side........
-
Sadly, it sounds like it's just time to replace them. Whatever you do will not last long and the stickiness will return. I think for whatever reason the rubber just starts to break down.

I think you may be correct. Darn. Does anyone remember what "collection" a 2009 CVO Road Glide had?

Use some 90% isopropyl alcohol on a rag and start cleaning them, it may take a few times but it’ll take the degraded rubber off and they’ll be good for a while.
-
The main causes of rubber breakdown are:
- UV light (sunshine)
- Ozone, smog, and other air pollution
- Petroleum products & distillates (engine oil, WD-40, gasoline, road film, alcohol of any kind, many of the car/bike waxes, many of the rubber and vinyl protectants - yeah, lots of irony in that)
- Friction
- The combination of the items above
To make the rubber last, rinse frequently with water. Use a mild car wash product (no petroleum), rinse well with water, and treat with a water-based protectant like 303 Marine Aerospace Protectant.

My bikes grips are just starting to get sticky....same happened to Bushnell binoculars and Rigid 12" mitre saw.

I went out the Harley shop today. Last time they got sticky they cleaned them with something and it took care of the problem. It's from the degrading rubber. They use non-chlorinated brake fluid. He cleaned it today and now it's perfect. He said you have to use the Non-chlorinated kind. But I did go ahead and ordered a left hand grip. Lucky they still had some from the 2009-2012 years that they came stock. All good now.

Just wondering if you may have ment non chlorinated brake cleaner?
-
Yes, that was it. But I can't find out the reason it should be non chlorinated.
-
Non chlorinated is the healthy choice of brake cleaners.
Just be sure to spray it onto a clean preferably white rag, a colored rag will bleed the dye onto what you are trying to clean and over spray can eat plastic and clear coats. My shop wall clocks plastic face was dirty and I wiped it with a rag sprayed with brake clean, it ate the plastic so bad with 1 swipe I had to take the cover off and throw it away.
Very similar to dry cleaning chemical products. If you have some oily greasy finger print on fabric you get most of it off by spraying brake cleaner onto a white rag and lightly brushing the area using a different part of that rag with each pass.
