Well, it wasn't exactly my 1st ride of the year but it was the 1st on my SEEG. I rode a little last Sat then pretty much all day Sun for a total of 110 miles. That used 4.8 gallons of fuel. I hope the gas milage gets better! lol

I was a little disappointed in the power (or lack of) compared to my 95" wide glide. In all fairness, I didn't really pin the throttle to the stops yet either. The stock pipes started getting their nice deep tone to 'em by the end of the ride tho. I guess I should add that I think I could get spoiled on the CD player really easy! Oh and JCZ .... I even used the saddle bags! I guess they do come in handy. At least now and then ........ LMAO!

I got a good laugh at this post.  It brought back some memories.  When I first switched from the Heritage to my first Ultra Classic (in about 1992) I just couldn't feel the power.  Then I rode beside the same Heritage and he pulled away from me, but not like I would have thought.  We talked about it, when we stopped.  He reminded me, "afterall, you do have a full fairing in front of you, so you're not going to feel it the same".  I can tell you that for a stock motor (after riding AK's SEEG a couple weeks ago) that that bike has good power for being totally stock.  Which means it will be even greater with the High Flow Air Cleaner, exhaust and Race Tuner.

Saddle bags will take care of theirselves, as time goes along, you'll wonder how you ever lived without them.......the stereo too.  How did I ride for decades and 100s of thousands of miles with no music??????? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

One example of the bags.......how many times have you been to a run or taken a ride someplace and thought "I wouldn't mind buying that, but I don't want to have to carry it around all day and somebody will steel it off the bike"......now you can just lock it in the saddlebags.  Of course all your buddys think that those bags are for them, too.....if you don't get clear about it right up front.  Just sharing experience with you brother.  [smiley=beerchug.gif]   But if you ever find that you don't need any of those extra parts (bags, stereo) I'll be happy to pay shipping and I'll take em off your hands.  Those lower leg fairings are probably in your way, too.....might as well throw those in, too. lol

In honor of my last post as a "newbie" I thought it was only fitting I should take the first ride of the year. I have 300 miiles on the bike so i fiqured I could open it up a little. The highway was clear and dry so I was at 70 and i kind of opened it up, before i knew it i was wondering why the cars were going so slow. I checked the speedometer and I was in tripple digets. That was enough of that.(for now) My 02 flht never came close to this much response on the throttle. It was well worth the time I had to spend making sure I got the salt and sand off afterwards [smiley=beerchug.gif]

or do you mean the Line under my pic?

A frind of mine and his wife were on their 96 Fatboy...  A guy pulls up on his bike and says to my friend, "Hey, is that a Fatboy?"  Withough blinking my buddy replies: "No, it's my wife."  Needless to say, he got nothing that night!

Friday, March 19th and it is very sunny in Pittsburgh.  The air is cold but it feels great in the sun.  I uncovered the Deuce, backed it into the driveway and thought I would start it up to let her run for a bit (I know some say it is not good to just let the bike run).  I was just dying to do something.  Well, then I threw a leg over and rolled the throttle a bit, next thing you know I was engaging the clutch and putting her in 1st gear.  Went up and back in the driveway a few times and before you knew it, I was riding through every cul-da-sac in the neighborhood.  Just a light sweatshirt and no gloves.  Well, it did feel good just to be moving on the bike, even though I never got out of 2nd gear, but then reality set in...  My hands were numb!  Wow, when the air is cold, it does not take long!  Back in the garage she goes.

Well, I did it--backed the lady out of the garage last night and fired her up--what a nice sound after so long. Isn't that something--a grown man fires up a bike and immediately says under his breath "Oh yeah!" with a quiet reserve. Oh, she coughed and hesitated a bit as I headed up the street, letting me know that she was put-off by the taste of that fuel stabelizer along with my ignoring her for the last few months. She soon warmed up nice and we were off together (See what I mean--who the hell talks like this?). Well, I putted around town for two solid hours staying clear of those nasty sand traps looming so close by. Had my new riding boots on, the new windvest windshield, new Shoie X-11, and the sundowner seat to try out. I would have tried out my gerbing stuff if it

He Psyco, congrats!  Don't waste your money on the heal rests unless you get the extended forward controls...you won't use them especially if your over 5'11".  If you want to get a feel how the forward controls will feel...go and sit on a wide glide, they're a bit farther up.  With the extensions the heal rests are perfect..... I brought back the Shoie, ordered a Arai yesterday. Told them about my expereince with Shoie, and they say their helmt will not do that. They did say perhaps on a muggy summer rainy day the shield will have problems--but not cold riding like I did. We'll see. The Arai also had a "crack open" setting on the shield..the Shoie had a ratchet mechanism that had it's first position as a 1.5 inch open gap!

Wow! Kangamankus Highway! That might be one heck of a ride--as far as I can remember--quite a twisty turner! We used to head down that road from Long lake in Maine to go swimming in the Kangamankus river! Nice idea! I might head up solo the first weekend I'm in Maine as I get my "Road legs" so to speak.

What do you have in mind Naitram. A group ride sounds a bit distracting and intimidating right now. Two sounds OK. Keep in mind, I did the commute daily from NH to Franciscan Children's Hospital in Boston for a year! What a freakin' nightmare Rte. 128! Never again! I often was unsure I'd get there/home alive on many occasions in my cager! So, getting me down that-a-way at this point on my two-wheeler riding career is unlikely!

Good grief, and I think I'm cool when I take the seat off and hook up the battery tender and gerbing wiring harnesses! To the untrained eye (my wife and kids), with the seat off and wires hanging there I can get away with saying "Yeah, I needed to break the bike down a bit to do some mods! I'll be in to help with the house cleaning in a few hours." Hey, I get to feel cool and they......well, they just roll their eyes. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

get together on a saturday or sunday morning ,and do the meet and greet thing over some breakfast, then go from there a ride would be secondary to finally getting to meet ya

Sounds good. But I'm not yet ready to graduate myself from the local roads just yet. Seems I'm willing to take much more chances with my surfing than my riding. I'm not pleased with my recent riding performance--mostly in the area of slow speed close turning from 40 mph roads (with cars behind me--pressure) unto side roads (with cars at the intersection trying to pull out) with only one half of the side road to make the 90 degree turn. Instead of slowly rolling on the throttle into the turn, I'm coasting thru the turn while breaking! Good grief! What the hell! When I try to break the habit (in the evening when no-one on roads) when practicing, I swing wide with throttle and no brake every time. I other words had a car been there I would have been in their back seat!  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] I'm getting there!

Just trying to help here, but if you are coming out of a turn to wide you may need to concentrate more on what your head and eyes are doing.  If you look through the turn to where you want to be when you come out you will end up there.  Your bike will follow exactly where you are looking.  If you are looking at the shoulder or the center line that is where you will end up.  Just keep practicing and your confidence level will build.  Next thing you know you will be hitting those curvy roads with a hand full of throttle leaving all of those cars in your dust. not a problem i can come up to you we're not much more than an hour apart

You know, mornings should be fine--especially a Sunday. Lets pick a spot in Southern NH (I'm assuming off 93). Although I think 95-495-128 roads are equally deserted on Sunday mornings--think I'll avoid them for the time being anyways. I'll see whats there.

Psycho, something you might want to consider is an experienced rider course. Its a one day thing. They are good for breaking bad habits and for pointing things out you might not have realized. Most everyone can get on a bike and go but it doesnt mean they do it right. The course will show you how to ride properly. One thing I learned is just what you had happen, looking through turns. h2oski was right on with his assesment. Just my 2 cents.

I concur......it would be money well spent and you'll be able to enjoy the ride with much more confidence.

It's not like surfing Psycho........you don't get to fall off and keep getting back on, too many times. [smiley=confused5.gif]

My wife learned to ride last summer but she did not put many miles on, <100.  She knew she would be rusty this spring and even last summer never quite got comfortable with her Honda wannabe.

On 4/4, she took a new offering, an intermediate course at Ironstone ventures here in MA.  The idea is to give some more riding time before sending the new rider onto the streets.  What they did was take the one day experienced rider course, remove the class work and allow the riders to use the 125s and 250s of the beginner class.  Basically, 5 hours of riding.

This was the best thing she could do!  This weekend will be her first back on her own bike but she already has 5 hours in the saddle.

Later this summer, we will try to take the advanced course together.

I agree with all you guys on the courses. I tool the basic rider course and that was great. They also have both the intermediate and avanced courses here in NH. The intermediate uses the 250's and the advanced is on your own bike. The advanced incorporates real life traffic type things with special circumstances. I plan on taking the intermediate first. However, I wanted to get some miles under my belt first. So I'm thinking the intermediate by summer end and then perhaps advanced next year.

Somehow I don't think this will be the last time I'm lookin to you guys on technical riding  matters. So I think I'll start a generic thread on "Technical Riding Guidance" and post my stuff there. Seems I might be one of the few, if not the only true newby, on this site. I mean how many people who have never ridden before start off with a CVO for crying out loud! Trust me, I gave that some thought! Oh well, I guess I tend to not follow the crowd.
