Banana paint woes
« on: September 17, 2014, 01:33:11 PM »

So during my move to Orlando I had something in the back of my truck lean against my Banana and rub a quarter size spot of paint off of the left side saddle bag. I cannot find one for sale on the interweb and the dealership in Lakeland said "NO ONE CAN MATCH THAT PAINT, YA GOTTA BUY NEW" and wants $1300 and 10 weeks for just the lower bag, no hardware. Biketoberfest is getting close and I was wondering if anyone knew of any painters that could touch this up.  Anybody know someone Who can do this type of work? Thanks for any help.

Wow.  $1,300 for a lower saddle bag.  Yeah, I'd sent it to Xtreme.

Try colorbrite.com, they have harley colors in touch, spay cans and quarts. If its factory paint they have it.

I think you mean www.colorrite.com and I don't see any CVO colors listed.

Wow.  $1,300 for a lower saddle bag.  Yeah, I'd sent it to Xtreme.

I verified that as the MSRP from Harley.  With prices like that for a simple plastic box with some paint and graphics, it's not hard to understand why a relatively minor crash can result in the bike being totaled.  It's ridiculous, but such is the world of Harley.

As the others have already commented Rob, I'd just get your bag painted.  I've seen nothing but great reviews for Xtreme Dimension around here, so I'd start out by contacting Joe and see what he can do for you.

Ok, I'm getting ready to beat a dead horse here, but here's the math:  $1,300 each, so $2,600 for a set.  Now add lids and hardware, and a set of complete saddle bags must cost about $3,500+.  That's what, 10% of the total cost of the bike when new....for just the saddlebags?  I never cease to be shocked.

Yep I'm gonna call him today. I'll keep all posted on the progress. It's unbelievable how much such a small spot can just IRK THE CHIT out of you. I feel like folks are staring at that spot wherever I ride.

I know exactly how you feel. I had a lower chrome grill fall out of my fancy black two door convertible midlife crisis sports car and could barely stand to drive it till I got the grill replaced. I am sure people really did not notice it but it killed me.

BTW why don't you just put a big sticker over the mark and pretend you want it that way? :D I know it will never work because only you know whats under it. :P Hope you get a nice paint job. Next time you see a nice used bike on the dealer lot remind he needs take off $1300 for each bag that has a mark on it.

Hit us back with an update.  That is ridiculous for the bags.  Hope it all works out.
