Title: Pin issues
Post by: longlast on June 25, 2022, 01:28:52 PM
Help if possible,..... (not for me for a friend )
He's having an issue with the pin on his 2016 EG.

He had changed the battery now when the ignition is turned on the display ask for the pin number he enters the pin then all's good.  Now when it's turned off then back on again it wants the pin this happens each time he turns it on.

Q. How does he save the pin?

Thanks on behalf of friend for any input

Never heard of this problem. I suspect the remedy might be to follow the process of changing the pin which can be found in the owner's manual.

Did he put the battery in backwards? That or a dead battery would be the only reason it wants the pin, and you said he changed the battery and I'm assuming he changed the fob battery?

He changed the bike battery then all this happened (asking for a pin) he then changed the fob battery (made no difference) .

I did ask if the fob battery was the right way round,...he checked,..it was,...

I was wondering is it possible for the security system to have lost recognition of the fob?

That the fob has to be reprogrammed?  :nixweiss:

I haven't seen this symptom before.
I would go back to the bike battery follow the disable alarm sequence and clean both cables, than if needed try to reprogram the pin number back in.

I dealt with one behaving similarly three or four years ago Pete.  The guy's bike kept asking for a pin after replacing the fob battery at least two or three times as I recall.  He finally rode it over to my place one evening hoping to diagnose what other hardware or other issues might be causing this.  First thing I did was tell him to go back home and try his other fob.  He called later and called me bad names.  He had a bad fob.  His other fob (after a new battery) worked just fine.  Just an FYI in case it might help.

Maybe check the security antenna module.
If the transmitter fob is ok, it may be an issue with the antenna or the cable that it plugs in to.

Also found a problem with RF interference from faulty spark plug wires affecting communication to the security system, but that would not be as likely in this case I would think.🤔

Just a thought.

My thought as well on the ant.  My receiver is mounted on the cover over the battery, not sure where it is on that bike.  It would e easy to dislodge and drop further down.  When my for battery is getting weak I sometimes will have to hold the fob near the seat at my crotch area to get it to read.  It might be worth a look.
