Freedom Cycle True Duals...
« on: December 14, 2005, 04:44:54 PM »

Ok, I know this has been discussed before, but I need a little advice.  I have the SEII mufflers on a stock exhaust on my '05 SEEG right now.  The sound level is okay-ish...   How does the Freedom cycle system compare.  (I know the preformance is a big improvement)  What I am asking is how do they sound.  I can't find anybody in my state with a set to listen to!

(trying to idescribe the sound of an exhaust system should be pretty interesting....)

Help me out!

Coolbreeze,

Imagine this, you crack the throttle and you hear vroom vroom :)

Maybe someone can make you a sound wave of the Freedom exhaust and if they cant get it to you send it to me and I will put it on an FTP Server so you can get it.

I might also add Coolbreeze, if you listen to the Rineharts on an 88 motor like at your dealer, they will not sound the same as on the 103. The 103 will be deeper and louder.

What IS the difference between the Rineharts and the Freedom pipes.  I've heard different muffler, i've heard different tips, and I've heard bigger head pipes...  and combinations of all three.  Does anybody know?

The Freedoms have a different bend radius leaving the Heads, The front pipe drops down lower than the Reinhart, The Baffles are different, The steps along the header are different, the heat shields are not full coverage (there is a small area by the cam cover that is not covered), the shileds are held on with springs instead of hose clamps, and the Freedoms come with chrome tips
There were changes to the Rineharts just this year. My pipes turned blue and were changed under waranty. My new pipes came with a closed loop plug and the heat shield doesnt totaly cover the cam cover like you said on the Freedoms, the bend on the front pipe is different too solving the problem of the brake pedal hitting the heat shield. My pipes are the staggards but I read somewhere these changes were also done on the true duals.

I'll be able to tell you in a few days. I just got my set of
Freedom pipes and am taking them to the tuner tommorow. He's familiar with the Rineharts but never had the freedom pipes. He's going to use the racetuner.

Does Freedom sell just the header and muffler setup or do you have to purchase their whole system?

Curious what the difference in cost is between the two. Heck, what do EACH of them cost?

I can now tell you that the V&H true Dual, mated with the SEII slip-on two piece mufflers sounds great.  Seems to perform quite well too.  No dyno, just seat of the pants.  We aren't blessed with a good tuner in the area....  dammit!  Really look nice too, although the clearance on the left side is a leeeeetle close!  Can't get the left cover off anymore without really talking to it nice...

the freedom true duals are 795.00 pipes only. Rineharts are about 600.00 pipes only. I'm having the freedoms installed hopefully tommorrow. We'll see how it goes.

2lane, not speaking for breeze, but I'm sure he is referring to the 65115-98B performance muffler. That's about the only 2 piece muff HD has with any decent sound at all.  I had those once before, and as they are made my Kerker/ST, there are a number of other options for baffles if you want to change the characteristics and it's much cheaper than buying new muffs.

I'm going with the mufflers that come with the pipes. I think the baffles are 2.5 inch. They are sweet looking and I have a couple friends who have the Rineharts and swear by them. They sound really good too. I had the V&H true dual setup and couldnt figure out what slipons to mate to them so since Freedom gets so much good reviews for performance I bit the bullet. And, my wife said the bike sounds like a singer sewing machine! She said the old Heritage sounded like a Harley and this one doesnt!

I talked to Karen at BUB and she's sending me a new support bracket, they are on back order though, should be by the end of the month. No questions asked just gave my address and she said it goes on the list.

CVOwner, above you gave price of pipes only and you told me "I'm going with the mufflers that come with the pipes." So are mufflers included in $795.00 or is that an extra $300-$500?

Thanks JR.  Some nice pics there.  Didn't see any pics of the pipes up close to the engine.  Does the left one have an extra curl to it to make it the same length as the right one, etc?  Giving Freedom cycles a call today to see about ordering a complete set.  Hope the PC III won't be a problem with my local dealer.  I have lifetime mx on the bike.  Taking it in for the 10000 service BEFORE installing the new exhaust system though.  Thanks again! Once again, the local HD dealer shows their true stripes!  Spoke with the head of the service dept last night, told me that if I installed the "Freedom package" which I just ordered a few days ago, they would void my warranty on the bike.  "...should anything happen to the engine such as pulling in a valve, etc, I would be on my own in getting the repairs done...and the repairs would be at my expense....unless they installed the package and then they MAY cover repairs but other HD dealers would probably not if I were on a trip somewhere..."     What to do?  I'll give Brad at Freedom a call but any suggestions from this group?  Thanks in advance....
