'11 Softail Conv 110CI tuner suggestions?
« on: March 27, 2012, 10:14:53 AM »

Hi all, I'm posting this for a buddy that does not have internet access

He has a '11 CVO softail convertible with a 110CI motor.
He took it to an Indy to have V&H big radius pipes and a high flow A/C put on. The Indy sold him on a Thundermax tuner... the problem is the Thundermax isn't available for the '11's yet (in pre-sale mode on their web site). I'm betting the indy had to know this and my buddy is stuck waiting for the Thundermax. Is there another tuner that will work with his bike? I did a little research and I think the SE race tuner with the '11 cable and '11 software package will do the trick, but are there other choices? Like maybe the Dynojet Power Vision?

Also, where can I find a pinout schematic with wire colors for the TBW for this bike? The indy cut the tbw cable in the bars as he was changing them out for bigger apes and now they can't figure out what gets hooked to what.. I know, I think this indy is questionable as best. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

Jeff

that's fine... You're right! I just feel the guys frustration.
The Indy is a fantastic painter and pin striper who branched out into general mods, etc.
If the bike was not apart, I'd tell him to get it out of there ASAP...I still might
I do think based on what I've read that a PowerVision with a fuelmoto map would serve him well.
I'll tell him that and see if his Indy will take the advice..otherwise I'll be seeing his CVO on my lift soon.

I waited a while caus I wanted to use TTS tuner but it also is not ready for the 2011/12 softails so I just went with the HD tuner and dyno.  With head work and cams and V&H ProPipe the tune was well worth the cost.

The Twist Grip Sensor  should have six wires, three in a yellow covering and three in a black covering.  Each group has a red, white and black wire.  The wireing info is in the FLSTSE2 Service Manual Supplement, p/n 99494-11

nothing, i mean NOTHING that anybody ever learned about hd wiring - will work on a can bus bike.

cut wires on a can bus bike - baaaaad karma - the wires dont carry current - they carry data

baaaaaaad karma to cut wires

only tuner that will work "at" "all" at the moment is the hd one - eventually others will work - tts is most likely. basically there wont be any after market wire parts for a bit till the aftermarket tools up from scratch to make the stuff.

its extremely important to understand that a can bus bike has less than 1/4 of the total copper in it that a old bike had - and its all carrying DATA not current. the switch tells the headlight to turn on and it does - the swtich does NOT send current to the light - its not even like a relay - its more like a small computer on the light reads data from a chip in the switch and turns on.
