What do you do with your Microfiber towels after use?
« on: February 22, 2016, 06:05:43 PM »

I took a pile of used Microfiber towels in to my wife to wash.  They has been used to detail my bike and from Glare application.  She washes them by hand and said that she won't put them in the washer because they would leave a film on the inside of the washer. In the past, she has taken them to the pay laundramat so as to wreck their washers.

What do you guys/wives do with your used towels?  Just wondering

Guess I have Glare protected clothing.......my wife has always washed them as a separate load, never thought about residue, & I dang sure ain't gonna tell her now!!!

I always soak them in a 5 gallon bucket with some laundry soap in it first, then run them thru the washer.  I think soaking them in the bucket gets the worst of the Glare remnants off them prior to the washer...

I don't use Glare so I don't have anything to worry about.   :P

Seriously.....I've always washed them in a load by their self.....haven't noticed an issue on the stainless steel drum or the glass in the door.  :nixweiss:

Microfibers are washed with all the other wash rags & towels.  Used to use Glare, do not use it anymore.

Glare rules!

I wash micro fiber towels by themselves with a dose of Griot's micro fiber and foam pad cleaner.  Works great.  My mom used to tell my dad the same thing about the residue when I was growing up, though.

You may not use Glare but your bike looks as good as it does because I did.

I can understand her not wanting the silicone from the Glare in the washer. But for those of us who do not use there products, just wash them separately. AutoGeek and other companies have washing instructions, main thing to not do is wash with cotton stuff like regular towels. The microfiber will suck up all the lint from whatever is around it so that is main reason to wash a load of microfiber separately. I have to admit I do wash them with my Underarmor stuff, no complaints.

No idea what Glare is, but I have been washing my MF towels in the washer for 12 years now, with no ill effects.

Glare, IMHO, a overpriced wax that has a good snake oil salesman pushing it. Tried it, nothing special. Have a buddy who constantly looks for a Miracle wax that does everything except apply itself, he buys one every show we go to, Glare got him awhile back, I tried his stuff. NOT impressed.
Please, I know everyone has an opinion, but on this no one else's matter,,, to me.

I use them on the paint at first, then move them to preliminary cleaning of the dirt and dust off my wheels until they get funky, then I use them around the garage for general wiping up, then I toss them.

Am I the only one that doesn't wash them?  :nixweiss:

So, usually I'll only use them on paint when they are new and sort of migrate then to other uses after that much like you, Joe.  Only difference is I do wash them before they go to the next rotation.  After about 2 washes, they're more than ready for the trash the next time they get dirty.

Same here.  After they get scratchy, they become shop rags for other purposes.  Do not dry them in a dryer when still using on the bike or other vehicles.  After that life cycle is over, just wash & dry them like other rags.

Knew a guy who bought them new, used them once, then just threw them away.  Like lighting a cigar with a dollar bill, the way I looked at it.

Always wash them and buy in bulk. If I use them on my wheels and they get to dirty I throw them out.

Don't necessarily buy in bulk, but do have about a dozen or so.  I wait until I'm down to my last three and wash them as I would any other load of laundry, only without fabric softener... then dry without static sheets/dryer sheets.  Got one of them fancy machines that senses the load size and only uses what water is necessary for that size.  Dryer also has some kind of fancy science where it senses when the clothes are dry and doesn't waste energy, especially if there's only a handful of small rags.  Most of the time though, I just let them air dry themselves.
