2011 cvo lifters problems
« on: July 22, 2019, 09:00:51 AM »

Hello, newbies on forum.. from France.

My 2011 is out of order >:( Lifter, I want to pass order for new lifters S&S joins etc.... also pump for oil.

What Kit I need to order. I have read that some guy change also bearing for cam??

It's reasonable to upgrade to more power or torque? Actually the motorbike is around 49000 Km.

Many thanks Jean Luc

Thanks Prostock.

I have to cut one lifter in order to remove it >:( . The bottom part bearing and cylinder are broken, and it' more largeur than the upper part.

The cam is damaged, and oil pump also.

I have to go with a complete kit something like this, i have to check to have a better torque and increase the power

If the lifter was damaged to the point of coming apart and the cam was damaged there is more going on, IMO.  You indicated that the oil pump was damaged and that likely was caused by metal debris in the oil.  Which possibly is what caused the lifter to be damaged.  Now you need to make certain that the lifter bores aren't scored and that the cam bearings are not scored.  That metal may have gone most anywhere, into the oil bypass on the cam plate, up to the rockers, certainly in the oil pan.  Really should check and clean it all, do a leak down and compression test to see if the cylinders are affected as that could be the source of the debris.  Runout could be an issue too causing the problem.

if the failure is as bad as you describe you will most likely have metal debris throughout the engine, oil pan, and oil cooler, piston jets, EVERYWHERE! Also all of the bearings may be compromised from the metal in the oil. A complete tear down and inspection is in order.

From the description this sounds like a classic CVO110 lifter failure.  The failure starts with the rollers of the lifters, and if not caught very early and the engine immediately shut down, the roller can seize and break the roller axle and the lifter body where that axle resides.  It certainly sounds like this is one of those major failures.  When this happens the most common result is widespread damage to not only the cam chest components but also the bottom end of the engine after debris finds it's way into the bearings, and even the cylinder walls and heads.  Do not spend a lot of money buying parts until the engine has been completely torn down and inspected by an expert; you may find that the least expensive solution is a crate engine or a long block assembly, assuming Harley still has those options available.

The debris gets to the crank bearings also. Crank disassembly is a must at bare minimum or replacement. Out of the USA crank service may be cost prohibitive and replacement be a logical choice. Be sure to check visually and by measurement the lifter bores.
