SE263E valve spring requirements
« on: August 31, 2019, 08:37:21 PM »

I would like to try a set of the 263's just to see how they go, the bike they came out of was an otherwise stock 110 CVO springer, dealer told him they were bolt in, it was a dog obviously so he took them out shortly after.
I would like to try this set of 263E's in my 110, it's not stock though the heads are, would the AV&V .650 duel spring set be the go or are there better available? Is there anything else that really needs to be done to run them?
Thanks for looking.

Don't waste your time and effort. Without added compression it will be a dog. That cam needs 11:1 to come on below 3200 and head work can help too but it would be my last choice and in the Screaming Eagle line the SE259 is a better choice once agin with head work and at the high 10s to one.

Just watched that Tman video on stock 110 valve lift, if my hearing is not letting me down he said the clearance between the top hat and seal was .695 and coil bind was .745!
That would mean a .637 lift cam, theoretically, all things being as they should, would have a clearance of .058" when open and be over .100" off coil bind.
That would explain why my friends 110 didn't have a mechanical issue when these cams were in his bike.
I have 10.48 static backtracking from measured CCP, if that is the case the 263 would yield 186CCP or thereabouts,  my old 97" Dyna rolled over at 185 with woods 408-44's and it was fun to ride.
Think I will leave it as is, goes pretty good now with the 590's anyway.

What has been done to the heads, CCs? Head gasket? Pistons? Deck height changed? The stock 110" is 9.3:1 nominal. Using calculators to determine actual static compression ratio is quite inaccurate. Actual fluid and other measurements are needed.

Heads are stock, has the se 10.5 pistons in it. With the Tman 590's it rolls over at 198 front and rear.
You are right, needs to be measured not calculated.

It takes head work from where you are at to make more power, heads are now in the way and the throttle body is next. The 590 works perfect at sn honest 11:1 at .030 squish.

Cheers, yeah it has a 58 on it, heads will have to wait awhile, that kind of work is expensive over here and I detest having the bike off the road.

I have sent heads there. One guy I dealt with bought 3 sets of new castings (3 bikes) and I built them then shipped. It was an expensive but successful deal.
