HorsePower Inc 58 / 62 mm throttle Bodies (set screw)
« on: February 07, 2008, 11:18:50 PM »

For those that bought the 58/62 mm.   If you find the bike you installed this throttlebody on won't idle or is very choppy at little or no throttle and continues to get worse please check the set screw and the butterfly.   My bike wouldnt idle at all.   Thought it was an intake leak at first, but after further investigation found it was the set screw / aic setup.  The set screw on my 62mm loosened up and changed the blade angle and was not allowing any air in when the throttle was at 0.   Once we fixed that and checked the aic 58-62 at 180 - 200 degrees, all was good with the world again.

Have had a few things go wrong with mine

1-butterfly pin broke in half

2-2 screws that hold the two pieces together came out

3-small crack where rear injector goes in

will give HP Inc credit..they have given me 2 new ones for free

Looks like you need a full time passenger so one can keep an eye on the road, and the other can keep an eye on all the mechanical bits and pieces.

Do you get the impression that the HP folks ran out of red locktite? :confused5:

Jerry,

That was exactly what asked  :nixweiss:.    This is the 3rd throttlebody I have bought from them and the first issue I have had, but was told this has been seen before.  I was just relieved it was an easy fix as this 62mm took me over 3+ months to get from them and was worried the bike would be down for bikeweek.   /sigh of relief.

static, the hp inc throttle stop should be set so you have slight resistance between throttle blade and .003 wire gauge.

info from hp inc.

Just curious, but when these set screws come out or pins shear - where do they go since they are downstream of the filter?

Jerry

This reminds of days of yore when speedway cars had two seats.  Race drivers would take their mechanic along on the track with them so they could maintain the car during the race.

Maybe a sidecar with a mini Snap/On tool box loaded with nits and bits to keep everything in order.   :o :o :o :o
