HOUSTON (NBC)- One day you may be able to get the same heart benefit you get from wine in your beer.
Students at Rice University are genetically modifying yeast so it will ferment and make beer, and produce the compound Resveratrol.
Resveratrol has been shown to prevent heart disease and certain types of cancer in animal studies.
Experts suspect it has a similar effect in humans.
Experts say it will be years before the modified beer makes it to your local bar, and until then,
more experiments are planned. Sounds like you guys need to apply for a grant and help them out for YEARS of R & D!
