I think there was a thread on here about hot weather riding gear...well, I was at the local HD dealer this afternoon, and they had just put a new jacket on the floor...It's a tough, fine mesh, with pockets for armour in the elbows and shoulders, if you want to put it in there. Otherwise, it fits great, even without the armour. It's got reflective piping on the seams, a crew neck collar, zipper with flap behind it, and it's just a little longer in back, with an additional layer of material around the spine/kidney area. The cuffs are velcro adjustable for snug fit, and there is a velcro adjustable belt on each side at the bottom of the jacket. If you hold it up to the light, you can see through it...I'm not sure of the material, but it feels like it would provide pretty good protection from road rash...at least for a short ride on the pavement.
They're supposed to be "Limited Editions", and in-store purchase only. Men's is "Crossroad Mesh Jacket", part number 97532-06vm, and the women's is "Windswept Mesh Jacket". Cost is $85, which for "genuine" HD chit isn't too bad, I don't think. I don't buy HD leather....it's made in Pakistan, and is too damn expensive....if you want some good leather, visit Fox Creek Leather on line....best stuff you have EVER felt/seen. And...it's make in the USA!!
Looks like this jacket will be the ticket for those hot, sticky, summer days/nights here in the Heart of Dixie... [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=drink.gif]

That would be this one....
-
I kinda like this one 98225-06VM

I second Fox Creek Leather. They don't have a big selection like the MOCO but they are american made and are a very high quality leather.

Yea, they don't have quite the selection, but the quality is unreal! I'm getting a patch sewn on the back of my Classic (the one with the belt..."traditional bad/ass style") by a local leather shop...I've known the guys for years and they'll do a great job. I'm soon ordering one of their buffalo vests and a pair of chaps. You can just pick the jacket up and know it's good...damn thing probably weighs 8 lbs, but the leather is thick, and they spare no expense in the manufacturing process...liner, vents, etc. Have you checked out the Cruiserworks boots? Truly waterproof leather boots...got me a pair of the Defenders...high quality there too!! And very comfortable. Customer service is outstanding!! Now all I need is the bike [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I have the gray & black one in the 2nd picture. Wore it riding yesterday. Real nice jacket. It keeps you shaded so no sunburn and it's cool because of jacket fabric design. The 2 layers of mesh actually cause the air to swirl keeping you cooler. This can be felt even when walking! This jacket is definitely a keeper. Joe Rocket (Ugh! I hate the name... kinda like red rocket but thats for another thread) makes a very similar jacket that you can purchase at the "other" MC shops for less. I bought one for my wife, took off all the Joe Rocket crap and it looks great on her. She loves it. Now to put the HD patch on it to drive up the value $100 ;D
-
Good to hear that it works so well...the women's model looks good too...my girlfriend bought that one yesterday when I got mine, and we don't have to put any patches on 'em ;) 8-) For HD stuff, I didn't think the price was too bad. The Eagle on the back is kinda cool too. The GF got a "Harley Diva" patch for our leather jackets...the bike is a good excuse for her to buy more clothes....
-
I'm trying to figure out who had the Jacket priced at $85. It's around 120 via the web at Chicago Harley, and my local dealer has them at MSRP which is $150.
-
I paid 85 bucks for mine at the local HD dealer..it's on the website under jackets/new and that's the price they have on 'em too....maybe we're talkin' about two different jackets?

The first jacket tcnbham posted in 1st thread is 97532-06vm which is $85. The picture below that one is a 98225-06VM Which is the one I like and it's $150 or $120 thru Chicago Harley.
-
Is there any difference besides color and emblem?
Ya.........$65!!! ;D ;D ;D
Sorry MJ I couldn't pass that one up! [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] I was wondering that myself. I, of course like the more expensive one. I would like to see them together to see the difference. I haven't seen any at Bumpus have you?
I thought about you last Saturday when I was bringing my bike in. I used my last 2 FLHRSEI business cards on a couple SEULTRA's and remembered I need to get you a stack! Maybe when I get my scooter out we can take a scoot together. See Ya!

JR...I checked it out...the more expensive one already has the body armour in it on the shoulders and elbows...the one I have does not come with it, but has the places sewn in if you want to put it there. Personally, the armour gets on my nerves...not comfortable...but that's why they make chocolate and vanilla....uh, in this case Charcoal and Black. They may be made from the same material...I haven't seen the gray one in person...
:)
-
Thanks Ham [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] I thought they both had the armor when I read it. Having a place for it and not getting it is kinda misleading. I'm glad to hear they work well with or without the armor.

Yea...uh, that was a bad way to put that, wasn't it? SHE'S the DIVA...mine has a MANLY MAN patch on it...a big 'ol V with wings..genuine HD.
You got me on that one...I'll have to be more careful with my sentence construction on here...nobody misses an opportunity to bust B$#@s It's fun though, ain't it? ;D ;D ;) [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=drink.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

Yeah, it is fun ;D Lot's of laughs to be had here. Never really doubted your Manly Man-ness but saw the opportunity and couldn't pass on it. Ride safe! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Their Vented Racing jacket is one bad ass jacket.
-
They got some of the best Chaps you'll find anywhere at any price too!! Lee Parks deerskin gloves that they carry are great too, even after they get wet and dry out!! Great products at good prices...what more can you ask for? [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
-
I notice no one has mentioned the fact the $85 mesh jacket has no armor, only the pockets for it. The armor comes in a pack of two and costs $35/pack, and you need two packs. So the $85 becomes $155 before you ever put it on.
Without the shoulder and elbow armor
-
Actually DW it was talked about. The Charcol and Black comes with armor but is $150 or $120 from CHD. But I agree with you about the nylon vs Cordura. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] If you buy a jacket that doesn't have HD on it you will save $$$$$$.

Check this site out for jackets, helmets and apparel. Prices aren't bad online, but I bought my red Nitro jacket the last day of the GAM show and only paid $49 for it. Think it's owned and ran by two women.

Yeah, anything with HD on it adds at least a 25% premium, but you gotta have a couple of things, even if you've got others that don't ;) Personally, the armour gets on my nerves, and I don't find it very comfortable...yes, we should all wear it...but when it's 90 degrees in Alabama I have to take my chances. The mesh stuff works, but only if you're moving...guess something's better than just wearing a t-shirt, though I'll do that sometimes. From a safety standpoint, we should never ride without full protective gear on, but sometimes it's just unbearable!!
I think Cordura is a poly product too, and beleive me, if it's poly of any kind, it'll melt if you skid.
I do draw the line at shorts and flip-flops though ;D

I thought everyone knew that "H-D" stood for "Hundred Dollars"? [smiley=confused5.gif]

This is sort of off topic for the jacket thing, but I read an interesting article the other day on motorcycle injuries. The most common and most likely part of your body to be injured in a "typical" accident (if there is such a thing), not including your noggin', is your FEET. Kind of makes sense though. So, I have never...weeelllll, almost never ;), ridden without some kind of boot on my foot, and one that will stay on. Also gloves and at least jeans. The Helmet thing is another topic...no doubt a full face provides maximum protection, and a lot of them are pretty well vented these days, but if it's a friggin' sauna in there, it's definitely worse than wearing something more comfortable but less protective 'cause you're going to be distracted. So, on with the Shorty and t-shirt, but I've got to have the gloves and boots.
Like you said, everybody makes their own choices... [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I hate to think about dressing to wreck. A tee shirt is pretty comfortable right up until you go down. I've been thinking about a light weight jacket for summer riding. I received an email today with a jacket on clearance. Any opinions on this one? Here's a link:http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_ID=0&Category_ID=0&manufacturer_ID=61&product_ID=16461&sblid_name=First_Gear_Mesh_Tex___Jacket_with_Liner

There is another jacket shown down the page. The Tourmaster Intake jacket looks like it might be good too (if you can wear something without it having HD on it). Looks like they've got it in tall sizes too.
-
Phaze...that looks like a nice jacket, as well as the Tourmaster. The Firstgear stuff is good too. The HD I have without the armour (available seperately) is pretty comfortable when moving, but NOTHING is comfortable when sitting in traffic when it's 90 degrees!!
-
I agree with TC, I have the leather Aero jacket from HD and it is great. My parts manager has the nylon one and he really likes it too.
I rode to CC with the Aero as one of my jacets and it was great, surprisingly cool when moving in temps up to 90, after that it was tough and I rode in a SE long sleeve shirt which offers no protection if you need it other than from the sun.
-
Thanks for the input!
-
JR, Bumpus does have the 98225-06VM, charcoal and black mesh, at $150.00.
-
That's great PHAZE! I saw that jacket Saturday but they didn't have any Larges. Medium too short in arms. I was in the area and was going to stop by Bumpus today around noon and talk to Brian and Tim II and check on your scooter but got called to another job. Sorry I missed ya! I cut out those coupons and got them in my wallet for when the timing is right! See Ya Bro, God Bless!

The 150.00 jacket has one feature that for me makes it a gotta have. It has a 2 way front zipper so it doesn't bunch up in front while sitting on the bike. This is the only mesh jacket that I have found with a 2 way zipper.
