Title: No more boots from Harley???
Post by: FlaHeatWave on May 10, 2013, 03:28:55 PM
I was price checking on the Harley website and didn't see any boots in the motorclothes section.
Is Harley still selling boots or are they just licensing to a vendor?
If so, who is the vendor?

They've been selling Chinese boots for a whole lotta years, so I guess China was the vendor.  And I noticed the same thing on their new online store; if you search for boots the only things that come up are boot straps and boot cut jeans.  No actual boots.  Hmmmmmmmmm.

I haven't been in a Harley shop in many months, but the last time I was they didn't have any new boot inventory, just leftovers from previous years.  Maybe boots are no longer considered a necessity for riding a Harley?  Or more likely people spent their money elsewhere on better quality boots made somewhere other than China so dealers quit ordering from Harley.

If that's the reason, I hope mother MOCO is paying attention...

I really don't know, but all the local dealers here have no shortage of Harley boots?

I have yet to find a boot better for riding and all day wear and comfort and protection than the FXRG boots I have.

That said the pair of boots I had from Harley before the FXRG were the worst boots I ever had for quality and durability.

A pair of Harley boots I bought in 2002 are still in working condition, very worn, sure out lasted the worst pair.

There are several boots out there that are much more comfortable (and water proof) than any boot that Harley has their name on.......and, for a whole lot less money.

You might want to test drive a pair of Original Swat 9" Classics w/side zipper or a pair of Cruiserworks boots.  Both just a much, much more comfortable, lighter and better grip soled boot. :2vrolijk_21:

The FXRG boots are a very superior boot to the Swat or other similar brands (Ridge, Bates, Wolverine etc). I have used the Original Swat, and the Florida based Ridge 9000 as well as the FXRG. The Ridge is the best of the cheaper boots in my opinion but none of them come close to the FXRG. But if price is a concern then the Ridge or Swat are about half as much as the HD boot.

X2.

My current riding boots, I wear daily because of bad ankles.

I just go to my local shoe repair guy and get them resoled with a "Vibram" sole when they wear down.

The tread last longer, looks better, and a lot cheaper then new boots.

I thought only the FXRG boots were wolverine.

I see there is now a FXRG-5

I was about to take my -3's back to the dealer for warranty because the leak a bit. Then my wife's new dog took care of the toe.

Wolverine World Wide is based in Rockford, MI but their products are made all over the world.

Wolverine is the company with the license to make boots for H-D.  However, they haven't been made in the USA in a long time.  I've owned a couple pair over the past fourteen years and they were both made in China, as were all the other ones I've looked at during that time in various dealerships.

The name of the company selling and distributing things these days has nothing whatsoever to do with where the products are actually made.  Ask the millions of people in the USA who have worked for such companies and watched their jobs be shipped to Mexico, India, China, etc..  The brand name doesn't change, and the prices rarely drop either.  But the profits soar to new heights.

I have had my FXRG boots for 5 yrs great pair of boots.  Very comfortable.  I was thinking I needed a new pair until I had a lady at one of the Harley event polish them and make them look like new again.

Does someone know what model of Wolverine boots are supposed to be the same?

I have a pair of the HD Riddick boots, and really like them.  They're much more comfortable than I expected, and I've used them for more than just riding.  I do hate the facts that they're made in China and are still so expensive.  Harley has got to have some of the highest profit margins on Earth with their merchandise.

I bought a pair of water proof boots couple years ago.  The first rain storm I got caught, I found the boots filled with water and the water didn't leak out!  Waterproof means water gets in, but can't get out

I'm on my 2nd pair of HD boots with the Vibram bottoms. Very comfy.  As for where they're made, I hate to tell you but much of your motorcycle also comes from china. If a fact of life...

Well found out something interesting while trying to get new FXRG boots this month.  The FXRG-5 is no longer available to be ordered by dealers, tried several, all had the same answer.  They are no longer on Harley's boot web site either.  Only what dealers have left is out there.  The dealers can still order the FXRG-3 boot.

My FXRG-3's are four or five years old and just started leaking bad this spring.  Soles are very worn as is the uppers.

I planned to replace them with the new FXRG-5, but ended up having to get the FXRG-3's again.

They are a good boot.

Is anything made here anymore?  Try to find an athletic shoe that's made in the U.S.  I've got a pair of HD boots I've had since 2002 and other than having to shoe-glue the soles back on a few months ago, they've held up well.

5 year warranty against leaks - head to the dealer.

5 year warranty against leaks - head to the dealer.

Well just picked up the new ones two days ago.  I will check for my receipt for the other pair, if less than 5 years then I will turn the old ones in for warranty.  Not sure how much good it would do, as they are very worn, almost no tread left on front soles, and the leather shoes lots of wear.  I wore them all the time for at least 4 years.

If you bought from a dealer they should be able to find your receipt in their system.
As to age and condition, my dealer told me, didn't matter, FXRG was 5 years.

Hope it works out for you. I went to return mine and when I pulled them out of the closet it seems some furry resident (Golden #2) made a chew toy out of one of the toes.

I have several boots. One pair is the FXRG. These boots are very comforable, slip resistant and held up great in the rain. I have another pair (can't recall the brand and will have to check that out) that does well as far slippage but a hard rain will cause them the leak. I even got this pair because they were higher. Whenever I know I am riding in a lot of water I use the FXRG pair.

I bought a pair of HD Condor boots in 2010, still going strong. Before they were discontinued I bought a second pair....still in the box. Figure I'll have to break them out 4 years from now.
