Pipes or Slip ons
« on: March 30, 2008, 06:44:49 PM »

I think for a 110" the bike is quieter than I expected.  I first thought to get new pipes, but my dealer is talking me out of it.  They say it will be hard to get a sticker and expect tickets.  The 98 is bad enough, it would be too loud with a 110".

I don't want the hassle of swapping pipes to get my sticker, but want a deeper sound.  I love the look of V&H side shots, but they are expensive and I spent about all I had to get this bike. :)

How does the tech figure that everyone else gets their bike inspected?  I know each state is different but there isn't anything in my state that would cause my bike to fail inspection because of noise (yet).

Go to group rides and CVO gatherings and listen to other's bikes and talk with them about their pipes.  After a little while you'll figure out what you like best.

hey nice bike... i live in NH too... in newport.  i have the same bike and had the vance and heins big shot power chambers on my bike... got them inspeceted before... now i swiched dealers and got a 2into 1 big radius.. i just sold my old pipes this weekend for 300 bucks... i wish i had seen this sooner...now concord harley wont put a sticker on it... but lucky for us were in the sticks and its not too hard to get a sticker... i know a few spots around here that will just drool over your bike and then put a sticker on it... let me know if you need help. i saw a few 110 dynas at heritage harley last week with rineheart slipons... didnt look too bad. pipes will give you more power... but then you need to start thinking about the sert to get it to run efficent... good luck Jon

With the weather the way it has been up here, I'm still waiting to get it out.  I'm going to ride the break in on it, and see what other people are doing.  When the tech is trying to swing me a direction, I try to listen, but I love the look of the V&H I've seen and heard.

Thanks for the feedback

I had V&H Long shots on my Indian Chief-VERY loud. Then I went to a Thunder header-great sound and excellent performance. With my 03 SERK I put V&H Touring Ovals before I took delivery- lound-good performance (they are restrictive versus Reinharts and other slip on options) with the SERT. With the FLHTCUSE3 I had Tru Duals from Reinhart installed pre-delivery. Very loud with the 110 and working throught he performance set up with PCIII and awaiting a SERT to resolve a spikey bottom end.

I went with the D & D FatCats 2 into 1 with the big inch baffle.
Local stealership SERT. Boys there promised to honor warrenty with them preforming all the work.  :nervous:

Sounds like a 110" should  (IMO)

I would do slip-ons unless you go 2 into 1. I think the stock pipe gives better torque whet most of us ride. True duels give you a little better top end at the expense of some lower end torque.
