Shock Reccomendations
« on: July 13, 2019, 01:32:08 PM »

Looking for reccomendations for shocks on my 2018 CVO Ultra Limited. Love the bike and the handling however on longer rides my wife complains of her back hurting. Taking a trip to Sturgis via Colorado in a month and would like to make it as comfortable as possible. Any thoughts on the best shock out there. Have read several previous threads and if this has been addressed extensively before could you just direct me to the thread. Thanks in advance.

Shocks, tires, oil,etc everyone has their favorite
Ask yourself what kind of ride you prefer and do a search here.
Generally, better ride quality = more $$$.
You will find most like the quality, proven shocks.

Night and day diiference stock equiptment is unfortunatley garbage make the change your bike, your back, your wife will be thankful. Also you'll save on eatting up rear tires . See ya at Sturgis going this year from New Jersey

RWD shocks look good, I have no feedback at this point however.

Dogdoc85,

I have the Ohlins 357's on 2 bikes 04/11 and the 772 on the 15.  Ohlin FKC 101 front cartridges on the 11 and will be putting the cartridges in the 15 too.  Moving forward wont mess with the 357's just not worth dealing with the remote canisters.   I can't tell a difference between them and i get to save a bunch of money no not Geico :)   The wife says its the best money i have spent on the bikes in any upgrade.    She suggested getting the shocks for the 15.

Give Smarty a call - Carol Burkes great to deal with and awesome service with and post the sale.  469-268-4232   there are other guys out there, but the service from first hand experience leaves a lot to be desired.

G’day Dogdoc85,

Front & rear suspension should be matched so that they play nicely together.

I put H-D progressives in the rear of Lucille (15 SERGU), & thought they were pretty good for the $$. 3 years down the track Miss Lenda was not happy with the ride. We went on a run with the Shark Week folks in Texas and heard a lot of similar stories.

Funnily enough, they all recommended Ohlins. We went for a run over to Carol ‘Smarty’ Burks place in Royce City & he fitted Lucille up with Ohlins front & rear. Very accomodating, capable & professional service.

The difference is night & day for both Miss Lenda & myself. Awesome ride. They are not cheap but from what I could tell they are on a par cost wise with other options with similar performance.

If you plan to ride the bike & hang on to it for a while it is a great improvement.

I can’t speak to the other options out there but we are very happy with the Ohlins mate.

Cheers Tom

It appears that Royce City is just East of Dallas.  Is Carol Burk at a Harley dealership or an Ohlin shop?  Or what?  Thanks

Just an individual that's an Ohlins distributor. Works out of his garage shop. Nothing to be scared about when dealing with Him.

He provided the Ohlins on the back of my bike, thinking I am going to set some time aside this fall to make a trip down and have him do the front cartridge

Does Carol Burk have a website? I'm looking to add FKC-101s up front to match my 357s in the back.

He'll be at Shark Week (annual gathering of the Road Glides) in Deadwood the week after Sturgis this year. His screen name on here is Smarty so you can also PM Him on here.

This upgrade is one that I've been researching as well (factory one sucks) The Ohlins seem to be pretty popular and sound like a great product. Is selecting the length simple based on your desired ride height or there more to it? I'm at work or I'd go measure the factory ones.

Thank you all for the replies.  I received the Ohlins from Carol yesterday and plan to install this weekend. As mentioned before Carol Burkes (Suspended by Carol) is extremely knowledgeable about this product and a super nice guy to work with. Spend 5 minutes on the phone with him and he will have you lined out with exactly what you need.

I met up with Major Tom a few weeks ago in Maggie Valley and we got to talking about suspensions. I've run Progressive before on my last bike but was trying to decide what to do on my new one. He told me about his Ohlins and Carol Burks. Having ridden some miles with him in the past and knowing the miles he puts in, the conditions we've ridden in together, I knew that he knew what he was talking about. On his advice I contacted Carol Burks and ordered a complete setup for my new bike. He sent me the rears that I installed myself for the 500 mile ride to his shop for him to do the front end and a new set of 14" fat bars. With only a thousand miles on the whole set up since last week I'm tickled with the Ohlins performance and the wife loves the ride to. You couldn't ask for a better person to deal with than Carol Burks.

I installed Legend Revo A's last summer. The ride is a major improvement on all levels and are BSR approved as well. Installation was as easy as it gets and near as I can tell they never need to be rebuilt. Not saying that they are better than the competition but if I had it to do over again I would not hesitate to go with the Revo's again.
