New Here from the Goldwing
« on: October 16, 2007, 10:41:30 PM »

Just got a 2005 SEEG and put the 440's on.  Next up is tires.  While I don't ride as aggressive as I did the wing when I first got it, I would still like a tire I can have confidence in.  I had the Elite 3's on the wing and really liked them.  Are radials good for the EG?  Any comments on Kenda's?   Looks like a good tread design.  Those of you who love to grind metal on curves; what are you running?  Appreciate all input.

P.S.  I really love the SEEG.   :o  :2vrolijk_21:

Welcome to the site Trap Shooter.  I don't think any of us have radials on a SEEG..  I have Metzeler ME880's and others have Elite3's..  Most of us like the handling characteristics of these 2 tires compared to the stock tires.  Others won't have anything but the std tires as they wear just a little bit longer but don't handle as well IMO..  Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Welcome to the site, Trap Shooter! :2vrolijk_21:

I just put the new Michelin Commanders that Harley is offering on my SEEG.  They are GREAT!  Much better handling and ride than the stock Dunlop rubber.  I will never go back to those after feeling what a difference the Michelin's made.

Never heard of the Kendas you speak of.  Do you have anymore information on those?

P.S. Can post photo proof of part dragage if you'd like! ;D

Here is the site for the Kenda's.  Had a SE rider tell me about these and the price was supposed to be right.  I had a set of Avons separate on me before so I am afraid to try that brand.  I have had Metz 880's before.

Is there a reason that the HD doesn't have/use radial tires?  Thanks.

Good question. :nixweiss:  I don't know if it has to do with not being able to make a radial configuation in the sizes that Harleys run, or the load rating, or what the deal is.  I would try radials next if there was something available.

They use a 170/60/R17 Radial on the rear, and a 130/70/R18 Radial on the front of the SERK3. It requires a wider swingarm, which they haven't done on an FD yet. Bike rides great with them, but the D407 rear doesn't last for chit! This year I understand they changed to a D408. I'll have to try that next time, or switch to Metzlers. ;)
