I am wondering what will happen when it rains or road dirt and grime, leaves--etc are sucked into the opening--open or closed.

Thanks for this photo best one yet showing the vent from riders viewpoint. Looks like the airstream is going to be directed up along the inside of the windshield vs directly at the rider. It would be interesting to see this concept in a wind tunnel with the vent open and closed (like earlier model batwings).

Wife and I went for a ride to a couple dealerships today.
Did not see any CVO's saw a number of H2O 103 Limited's.
Looked around the bike okay not to bad.(wife's words). Could careless about the sound and information system.
We get to the back of the bike and OMG! Looks Like unfinished business.
They can change the fairing, but still run the same taillight they have had for how many decades?
They need to make this kit available for the 2014 real quick. http://www.harley-davidson.com/store/cvo-rear-fender-system#tabs
One good thing about the 2014 that the wife and I agreed on. We will be riding the 09 SERG for a while yet.

Scott

That is exactly the reason there is a vent.
I have seen the video from Harley and that new vent makes sense.

BTW, I'm taking a 2014 Limited for about an hour or so ride in the morning and I will report back my findings.

If there is anything in particular you want me to check out, please feel free to let me know.

Took a ride today to my primary dealership...The owner gave me the new brochure along with a single sheet illustrating all the improvements. Overall, I was impressed. This is what I was told. The liquid cooling is for the exhaust valves, that is all that is liquid cooled. They dropped the oil cooler on the liquid cooled bikes, kept the oil cooler on the other models. I was also told that Harley addressed the crank bearings, all the 2014's have improved crank bearings. The small radiators in the lowers vent to the outside, I don't think they will cause heat issues for the legs. I really liked the lower vents. The fairing vent worked well too. A simple button opens and closes, not to hard to clean the passage way. The front neck looked beefier, the inside fairing was painted gloss black; with the new gauges the dash looked real nice, I really think it looked as nice as a CVO. The tour pack was larger, loved the new hinges. Looked real good, the turn signals are now in the tour pack. I was told that Harley was working on a way to add turn signals below, should a owner wish to remove the tourpack. The side bags look real nice, they open and close real easy. The brackets also looked better. Overall, this is one of the nicest touring bikes Harley has ever built. I would bet that the 2014's are real popular, the Limited is going to be the big seller. I would bet that the CVO's have a bit less demand, the Limited comes real close in content. For more than 10 grand additional, you get nicer paint, power locks, nicer wheels and more chrome. Time will tell.

The number one question: how does the 2014 limited ride and run? If the bike runs stronger and delivers added riding enjoyment; they will have a hit. If the bike requires "adjustments" to run well, I think it will hurt the sales. This bike needs to run well as delivered. No big heat issues, no pinging and adequate power.

Havent seen anyone point this out yet

I looked at the 2014 at the dealer yesterday. Looks like Harley listened and addressed the issue of bags being stolen. It looks like the pins are shielded and hidden so you can not access them from the outside. :orange: :huepfenjump3: :mango: :bananarock:

I did see that last night. I pointed it out on one of the threads but not this one. I do love that feature also.  :2vrolijk_21:

I agree with Scott on many of his points.  Nothing is perfect here for sure.  the changes on the surface look good, although I am not sure if the mods for cooling will offer the benefit that we all are looking for. My other concern that has been pointed out is that these changes are only a band-aid and that full cooling is coming??  I don't want to constantly chase the prize, so go 100% or don't go. In other words if they continue to mod the engine and cooling it will frustrate many of us.  Anyway, the aesthetic changes do look good.  The bike has a fresh and updated look.  The gauges look like they came from a car and have a fresh look to them.  I am going to stay on the side lines for now and watch and learn.  If SG CVO comes back next year, well....we will see.  Peace out.

Saw a 2014 Street Glide yesterday at LA Harley in Lewiston Maine. The hole in the fairing below the windshield is not as fugly as I thought it would be but I still don't like it. It's just one more step toward Harleys looking like the metric bikes. But you know, that's just my opinion and I'm not a buyer so my opinion doesn't count for sqaut in the Ivory Tower of H-D Inc's poobahs.

Anyway, the aesthetic changes do look good.  The bike has a fresh and updated look.

I feel the same way but have not seen one in person yet.  From website pictures, when you look at the lower fairings straight on, it makes the bike look really wide.  I think that is why the saddlebags and tour pack are bigger to make the lowers and fairing look in proportion.

I think if you park a 2013 CVO Ultra next to the 2014 CVO Ultra, the 2013 may look like a bagged softail.

After riding all day, my bike is too large.

One other comment on the 14's.  Although the shape of the bags look fine, one thing i really don't like is that they are too high off from the pipes.  They look like they have been raised a couple inches, not a good look, IMHO.

Boatman, I know what you are referring to, but in person the lowers do not look too wide.  I am bummed however that we can put speakers in them anymore, at least on the Limited.

I still think they could have made the mail slot less noticible by letting the painted surface recess into the slot, rather than having that black plastic ring encircling the opening, thus making it visible from the outside....hope my description makes sense.  Other than the mail slot, the styling changes are subtle and stylish.  It does seem (to me anyway) if the MoCo is going to water cooling, they might as well go "all in" and water cool everything.  Not really sure if it's worth the effort and expense (expense in initial cost and radiator maintence) for only cooling the exhaust port.  Really, if you've got to have a radiator on a bike shouldn't you maximize that by water cooling the entire engine?

Thanks, that gives me a visual. :2vrolijk_21: Now... wonder how one of the freedom, clearview, or other "lipped" windshields will affect those dynamics.
