Help! Tachometer and signals don't work
« on: July 21, 2012, 03:50:38 PM »

Every time I wash the bike the signals and tachometer don't work until I ride the bike for a few minutes. It acts as if there is some type of connection that's getting water in it and has to dry out before these things will work again. This has happened three times but every since the last wash the signals and tach will not work at all even after riding the bike for a while. Any ideas?   :nixweiss:

Thanks,
Slim

in the case of coincidence, try cleaning the speed sensor

TSSM also comes to mind

Skippy....I checked all the fuses and pulled relays checking for connection problems with no luck. I'm guessing it has to be a connection somewhere that's getting wet but finding it might be a chore!
I told my wife she needed to do a better job cleaning my bike!

So I think I have it narrowed down to the ignition switch. After poking around in the fuse box and switching the ignition on and off several times the signals started working again. They stopped working one more time and the only thing I did was switched the ignition off and back on so I wiggled the switch and they worked again. Maybe it's getting water in the switch and corroding contacts?  :confused5:
