No, never heard of it.

But I think I remember reading once, that a dealership tried to claim that once, before the MoCo started putting synthetic oil in the bikes.

How would synthetic cause an oil pump to fail?

If you search oil pump failures on this site.. most are attributed to excessive crank runout... nothing to do with the oil?

I've been running Amsoil for years. I wiouldn't have Syn3 in my bike if the dealer did the oil chance no charge.

Absolutely!  It also causes impotence, baldness, and bad breath.

Tell me how an oil pump can differentiate between a synthetic oil or dino oil if weight and viscosity are the same. I don't believe a pump really gives it a thought.

I have very smart oil pumps.  Spend months training them before installation.  Mine even know if they're riding in the dark.  The SERG's oil pump is something of a night owl and actually prefers to ride in the dark.  Via mental bluetooth connection it tells me it promises it will never cause cavitation if I give it a ride in the dark at least twice a month.

Don't know what to say Marty.  Little bitch also likes those teenager vampire movies.  She is 12 now so she's close to a teen.  But it's still weird walking out in the shop and seeing the little tv in front of the headlight and smelling popcorn in the tour pak.  Bike is "team" someone but I don't know who.  SEEG is a grumpy old fart about the whole thing and just wants the TV off so it can sleep.

I don't like hamsters.  Try to ride the little buggers and my fingers are too big to hook up the little saddles and my ass is big enough they get squished about the same time I say "giddy up."  And don't even get me started on saddlebag space and the lack of a tour pak....

WOW--did this thread ever take a wrong turn!! From synthetic oil causing oil pump failures, to Don riding hamsters, to pulling them out of people's asses.........

But I did enjoy the mental pic of Don riding a hamster being pissed about the no saddlebags and lack of tourpack......

Gotta love this place sometimes.....

So,if you keep your oil pump in the dark it won't know what kind of oil you are using. :2vrolijk_21:
Now the question is who's oil do you run through your bikes veins?

I use, without exception, my own oil.  I never steal anyone else's oil.  That would be wrong.

I'm still wondering how an oil pump on synthetic oil is considered a drive train thread.  Yes, a motor is part of the drive train, but not in the context of our thread descriptions.  This probably would have received more attention in the Twin Cam threads.

Just ask'n...

By the way, Happy New Year everyone!

I believe we have put the matter to rest, synthetic oil as far as most are concerned should not contribute to an oil pump failure. I feel much better now and will certainly pass the info on.
