Help P0118 Code issues
« on: March 20, 2020, 10:35:56 AM »

I'm getting the P0118 code, but I'm also getting real world symptoms that something is wrong. When the bike is cold, it runs normally, but after app 3 miles, I get a stutter in the engine while shifting, followed closely by the engine dying or if I can keep it running massaging the throttle, it will go into a very high idle, which eventually drops back to normal idle. The engine cuts off unpredictably at any point of this mess. If I let the bike sit for 5-10 minutes, it will restart, but the issues remain.

Got chatty with another member just a month or so ago with the same code.  The "ET" is engine temperature sensor.  Screws in the back left side of the front head.  If the system can't correctly know temperature it will set up fuel and air incorrectly.  Think of it like an old car with a carburetor and an automatic choke.  If the bike thinks it's cold when it really isn't cold it'll still keep the choke on (fuel and air parameters set for that temp range).  If the bike thinks it is warm when it really isn't (or any other combination of incorrect data) and the problems will still come.

The temp sensor may end up not being your problem.  It's what the bike is telling you to check right now though and it does match behavior.  Fortunately it's a part that cheap and easy to test just be sticking in a new one.

Yeah just replace everything, both 02 sensors, and the ET sensor, warmed the bike up and took it for a short ride and it seems to be fine.....need to take it for a corona ride in search for a corona beer

This is important.  Be sure you don't drop/drip any of the Corona beer.  Internally it cannot harm you.  Externally, however, well...     Never mind.  I don't want to start a panic.
