Don,

We still have Greyhounds Myles and Keera.

Lola is a mixed breed (Lab and ?), and Lucy is a 16 year old Toy Fox Terrier.

With Wesley gone, we will have a little room to foster again.

In the past 15 years we have fostered (as near as we can tell) 53 Greyhounds.

Letting the foster dogs go to their families is sometimes near as difficult as them crossing over. (others not so much)

Good families helps.

Thanks,
Kim

Ps. I'll try and get pics up this weekend of the others.

Been a rough year. A year ago yesterday we lost our Molly to renal cancer. She hid it well and by the time it was diagnosed she had 2 days with us. Right up to our last ride she was smiling.
Still hard to talk or write about her.

One of my favorite shots of her, a nightly ritual when we sat down to watch TV. The original iPhone pic is good enough to be a 16x20 hanging over our chairs.

We move on and take comfort in knowing there are more pups that need our help in life.
We rescued another Golden in February that had an equally hard start in life. She is a hand full and challenging at times. But we swear she got ahold of Molly's book and read it cover to cover!
Her story will be forthcoming.

Today is my baby's 10th Birthday
 :2vrolijk_06:

9 years and 1 month ago she was destined to euthanasia.
We were the last "try" the local shelter did.

They called us (knowing we did Golden Rescue work) and asked if we could just give a try and see what is up with this wild rambunctious pup.
"No commitment, just try"

At the time she was only 11 months old and had been in 5 homes already!
Such a problem child that the local Animal Control officer pulled her from the shelter to give her one last try at her home.
She was the one that called us.

I've had dogs, cats etc my whole life and have never had one so attached to me as this one.

We tell all the newcomers to the Golden world (all large dogs included) that every day past 10 is a blessing. So starting tomorrow she gets an extra hug every day.

Molly

What a beautiful picture.I lost my dog Lucie many, many years ago and the experience was so devastating I have not had one since. Just didn't want to deal with the pain. Maybe I'm being too selfish. My condolences.

We still have a toy stuffed rabbit that belonged to our first Doberman rescue Zeus.  For years after he passed I kept it hid away so our new rescues wouldn't get it.  Finally last year I let Nikki who we rescued 3 years ago have it.  Funny though I still don't let her take it outside because I don't want it to get destroyed.

That darn rabbit is over twenty years old, but still you can still tell its a rabbit. Funny how certain things bring back pleasant memories.

I think you can be sure your dogs have become friends when you walk in and find them sleeping (on your bed) like this.

Or, maybe, when you can sleep like this there is just nothing much that worries you  :drink: .

Lucy with Donna.
Lucy is 16 years old now, I won't say how old Donna is.

Keera thinks that I am her human. She broke her left hock 5 days after we brought her home.

Was in a cast and splint for 6 months and had to carry her up and down the deck stairs.

She is seven.

Lola is our accidental Greyhound.

Donna found her running across the highway and talked her into the van. She was at the shelter for a month before she came home.
