 Harry thanks for the Dog Prayer.

Archie made it through the first night of being an indoor dog.   Nothing but the easy life for him from now on he has earned it. Our hearts melted when we met him.

This letter I wrote to my vet says it all.  We had to take our dog in yesterday as she had gotten to the point that she could not stand.  She had been going down the last few months and had a very bad episode on Christmas Eve.  But she rallied somewhat and made it through the holidays until this past Sunday when it was evident that she simply could not go on.  We had her cremated and now have her in a special place on our fireplace mantle.  Those of you who have pets certainly understand the bond that cannot be broken.  Here is the letter and a photo of her on Christmas Eve.

Dear Dr. Neil:

J. Carolyn and I want to thank you and Cynthia for helping us through the most difficult time in the long history of our relationship with our pet dogs – having to bid farewell to our beloved Persephone yesterday.  As you noted she was the oldest Dalmatian you had ever treated and was just two months shy of her sixteenth birthday.

She was not quite eight weeks old when we brought her home on April 30, 1995.  During the ensuing almost sixteen years she brought us untold joy.  Even though all doggie ‘parents’ are undoubtedly proud of their four-legged family members I can say without fear of contradiction that Persephone was unquestionably the most intelligent animal I have ever known.  She was smart and she knew it and used that innate ability to assert her alpha credentials.  She was in charge and made no bones about it!

God knows she had her quirkiness but then again don’t we all?  Regardless we loved her unconditionally and she us.  We are having difficulty adjusting to being in our home without her but are comforted in the precious memories of our good times together.

Again, thank you both for your kindness, consideration and caring.  We TRULY appreciate you.

Jerry, sorry to hear of your loss. I still haven't gotten over the loss of my last one but Archie is helping to fill that space. I'm hoping I have a crowd waiting for me at that bridge.

Thanks guys.  I've never been privileged to have a pet this long or form such a bond.  I won't lie - it is tough and I've shed a few tears because I miss having her around.

Well after almost 9 months without a Dobe, we decided to rescue another, or I guess I decided and Terri went along with me (she really wasn't over Zeus yet)  but after driving to Ringgold Georgia to Meet Nikki we brought her home from her foster mom.  She is 3 years old and was dumped at a vet by a couple at Christmas, (why I can't say)  From the vet she went to Trenton Georgia, then on to Chattanooga TN and then we picked her up at her foster moms parents.  Man what a 2 week event for her.  Seems very shy but who wouldn't be after all that.
