Sorry for your loss Hotrod50.  My yellow hound, Jinx has been dx. with cancer, so we're facing the sadness of losing the family pet also.  We get so attached to our pets and then it's tough when they pass on. :'(  spyder

It is tough, no matter how or when...I always try to tell myself to think about what might have happened to the dog/animal if they had gone to somewhere that didn't care about them like I did.  That helps a little bit...

Nice pups.
If we didn't have Golden's it would be Shepard's

If we didn't have dogs/cats it would be kids :nervous:

Bring on the pets :huepfenlol2:

I lost Jenny Thursday morning.  Sweetest dog in the world.

Sorry for your loss, been through it many times, never gets easier, actually as I age I think it gets harder to lose a pet.

This is Aurther, a 228lbs Leonberger. He is trained to protect my three daughters from cougars and bears while they walk to the bus stop a half mile each way. He walks them down in the morning then heads down to the end of the road and picks them up at 4 o'clock.

Haven't been able to train him not to go on weekends though..... :nixweiss:

We have to actually go down and get him on the afternoons or he just lays there waiting.

He is a true gentle giant.

I'll have to say, as a dog person, I've never heard of that breed.  Beautiful dog!!

After the second word war, there were roughly only 54 breeding pairs left in the world. Most likely because they were eaten.

Aurther's father lived to be 12 and was healthy and mobile right up until his last month. He fell sick and refused to eat. I couldn't stand seeing him suffer any longer so I took him for a walk and put him down.

Leonbergers do well in a cold climate with healthy diet of deer meat. I hang a deer out back in the winter and lower it down every few days. Summer frozen pieces.

Aurther is 8 now and doing very well.

I am glad to hear that Aurthur is exceptional,

these breeds certainly do not do well in hot climates.

You have the best situation for Aurthur.

He is very cute
