Title: Backpacks: Anyone try them?
Post by: RoadDawg on April 30, 2015, 10:26:34 AM: I have a CVO Breakout with a solo seat coming. That means no pillion, so I'm thinking about a backpack for my three-day adventures. I travel light, so weight is not an issue. Don't want saddlebags or sissy bars. Afraid to use suction cup pillions. Anyone using backpacks? If so, what is your opinion of them?

Post by: smkblwr on April 30, 2015, 10:34:24 AM: Used one on my Night Rod before putting bags on it. Spring and fall not to bad, "be mindful of weight" Summer heat it SUX'D. No air movement between me and it. also becareful how it sits as not to let it touch the fender behind you with a solo seat. depending on the material it could act as an abrasive due to vibration on painted parts if it come in contact with them..

Post by: JCZ on April 30, 2015, 10:51:00 AM: Not sure if they make them for your model but might look for a quick release solo luggage rack. It'd certainly be more comfortable than a back pack.

Many sport bike riders do it because they don't have a choice. When you read most articles about packing a bike for a long trip they always talk about putting the weight low and centered on the bike as best as possible. Not high up and as far back as you can......I know you don't want them but I would use saddlebags and if it's important to you maybe they have the removable leather type?

Post by: Cross threaded on May 03, 2015, 01:02:35 PM: Local Harley shop was giving away HD backpacks last month for a $300.00 dollar part department purchase. I got one and it's pretty nice, just havn't used it on the bike yet. But I think I will try it some this summer…

Post by: BritGuy on May 17, 2015, 04:53:22 PM: I have used a Kriega back pack for years. Specifically designed to address the usual issues associated with a back pack on a bike. Even loaded up, I still forget its there. Great design, quality components and well put together.

Post by: T-Roy on May 17, 2015, 05:27:29 PM: I used a Joe Rocket back pack when I had my Wide Glide. It was buil in such a fashion that air circulated a little bit between it and my back. It was always pretty comfortable but I had a small passenger pillion so I could adjust the straps so that most of the weight rested on the pillion.

Post by: Ironhorse on May 17, 2015, 06:00:29 PM: One thing to consider is wearing an ice filled Camel Back under the backpack. That will help keep you cool and hydrated at the same time.
