riding suit
« on: October 29, 2007, 08:23:01 AM »

My wife and I just moved to Johnson City TN form Tampa FL. Well It was cooler than we thought on Sunday morning for my wife.

I was talking to a guy and wears a suit most of the winter. Rain/warm riding gear. We are not sure what is good or bad about these. Also were to buy?

The name that immediately comes to mind for riding suites is Aerostitch. They're very good, but that comes with a steep price.

No respectable BMW rider would be caught dead without one. Nuff said.

There's a bunch of directions to go for a cold weather riding suit that is windproof/waterproof/water resistant.  It's really about how much money you want to spend.  One of the best options from Harley is their FXRG line of leathers.  Pants have a breatheable waterproof liner, good leather outer, flexible armor.  Jacket has a primaloft type liner that can be worn independently, or under the leather jacket.  If the leather is treated with a good dressing, it will be waterproof in all but a toad strangler.

Another viable option is a really good set of snow skiing bibs and jacket.  Most of the better versions are constructed of a Gore Tex shell, with plenty of insulation.  Spyder is an excellent brand, but expect to get off your hip to pay for it.  There are other good brands as well...check out a local ski shop.

Good leathers, if treated with good leather oil/paste will keep you amazingly warm with some 100 wt fleece long johns, or "expedition" weight long johns, and will keep you dry in most rains you'll run through.  Throw on a windblocker fleece jacket under the leather jacket and you'll be good in all but extreme temps.  If it's 35 and raining, I stay home... ;) ;D

The stuff Chief mentions is also great gear, but you'd look like a beemer rider  :huepfenlol2: ;)

Colombia Sports wear is some good stuff...A snowmobile suit (no kidding)  or ski bibs work nicely.  I gave mine away when I moved to WPB, Fl., 20 years ago...

Exactly...

The center stand is pretty cool....I'd need it with that tall bike.  My short a$$ would have a hard time with the seat height on a Beemer, but I was in that dealership the other day just checking out the new Ducati bikes, and you can get a hell of a lot of bike for 23K with the BMW LT...I'd do that one before I'd do a Wing, I think.  But, my 08 SEUC will be with me for a long, long time...and I like leather better.... ;) ;D 8)

Oh sure anyday that is an easy call, bimmah versus wingah (still in bosox victory mode, sorry).
I had a "toaster" tank boxer in the way back times.  A great ride...ugly, slow, frame flexin all over, leaky, lecrical gremlins...sound familiar?    :huepfenjump3:

Oh no, d00d...got all the bikes in the stable I want right now, but I don't rule anything out for the future.  I do enjoy going and looking at all the different new models out though, no matter the brand, and we were in there looking for something to keep Diva warm in Georgia.  Besides, I'd look at the GT...156HP right out of the box in a Sport Touring bike ain't bad for under 20K.

Ducati has their racing bike made street legal...from what the guy in the shop told me, it's just plain scarey fast, but it's about 34K and you have to get on a list.

Chit...that was a big mistake...nothing could get the 06 away from me...
