2006 HARLEY-DAVIDSON STREET ROD INITIATES THE ROADSTER REVOLUTION

MILWAUKEE (January 24, 2005) - In the court of public opinion, the all-new 2006 VRSCR Street Rod might appear guilty of using steroids. But the newest member of the liquid-cooled family of Harley-Davidson motorcycles gets its reputation honestly by combining an upright riding position, 40-degree lean angle and a retuned suspension to deliver a Harley-Davidson that marries custom looks with agile performance.

It's a variation on a theme.  A difference with very little that is really different.  It's a marketing expansion of the platform.

With more fuel capacity and Brembo brakes and a change in the neck rake, I think that is progress in add ons.

No Mike we disagree there.  Those are mild changes.  Granted, better brakes are always important.  But brakes and a slightly bigger tank aren't enhancements of the products in any way different that you or I couldn't have already bolted on on a wide variety of models of bikes for a long time.

It's not even an evolutionary change, nonetheless anything truly significant from a "products" point of view.

Tell me, are you really serious when you say (as you seem to be here) that we give extra cudos to the Motor Company for buynig parts off of someone else's rack to bolt on and sell to us rather than develop significant product enhancements to be applied across the different model series?  That's as much as saying "hey guys, we know you're so far behind the curve on some things and so far out of the loop on some ideas that I want to give you a big pat on the back for buying some brakes from somebody else because we've just given up on you getting better on your own."

Evidently my subtle sarcasm was just too subtle......

Evidently Mikey; evidently.  I'd just seen little evidence of "subtle" in your public or private messages before so didn't consider here  [smiley=shocked2.gif] .  Glad to read, however, that you weren't praising Caesar without warrant.

Just had a thought regarding the new Brembo calipers on the new V-Rod model.  Since the calipers on most of the dual disk bikes were previously interchangeable to the dual disk V-Rods as well I wonder if the Brembo calipers on that new V-Rod would be interchangeable to our bikes without the necessity of extra bracketry or a change of lines?

Will have to look at one of them up close when the opportunity allows.

Somehow, I was under the impression that Brembo rotors were being used with calipers from Performance Machine.

Mike, I believe that is on the new Big Dog bike.  I don't believe HD would ever use Performance Machine calipers.  JMHO

I understand the "love it or hate it" on the V-Rod.....

I bought one just to try it and liked it for a back and forth to work bike.

Took it apart, paint the frame and all, change wheels to P.M. 's and some other work .

I never liked the foot peg's up front, or the small tank.

With the street rod, I will be going to dealer to see how much it is going to cost for the new gas tank and if the new mid-foot pegs will fit on my 02

Will they sell a bunch of them.......don't know, but I think as a around town bike this will help sell them.........If they sell them at.....13,000.00 or less.

Have not found any price on them, I will look at their web.

My 2 cents .  While it's not a huge change , it is a nice option for those who want a bike more suited to the twisties.  The tighter rake, inverted forks, mid controls and Brembo's are welcome addition for those who appreciate a bike for canyon carving.

Styling wise I'm not impressed , but it's a nice variation on a theme for the niche .

There is a multi-page review of the new H-D Street Rod in Motorcyclist Magazine. This is traditionally not an H-D endorsing publication. They gave the Street Rod glowing reviews.

One especially interesting point they make is while the VRod held its own for sales in the U.S., it broke no records. However the VRod is becoming widely accepted and is taking off in Europe and Asia. They predict the Street Rod will usurp the VRod.

Read that article today, good report on the bike.  My dealer had one of these sitting out front when I pulled up on Friday.  I asked when we were going to get test rides and the sales guys said they didn't know about that.  Bike looked interesting, would be fun to ride and see what it was like.  Rode the Vrod and liked the power for an around the town bike.  Bet they sell a few of these.  Later,

Found a short review on the new Vrod. There's a link to a video of the guy riding a wheelie on one:

After having recently seen on this site to V-Rod to end all V-Rods all stock V-Rods are pale imitations.  Just hard to get worked up over.  I would love to know, however, if the front calipers on that new V-Rod would interchange to our bikes.
