Bike Crash and Fire. Rider saved by witnesses. Video.
« on: June 24, 2011, 01:29:55 PM »

"Feltonville, PA - June 23, 2011  -- It started with a car making an illegal u-turn at Second Street and Wyoming Avenue, right into the path of a speeding motorcycle.  Surveillance video shows the cycle skid on its side and slammed into the side of the car.  The motorcycle then burst into flames and the rider became trapped under the bike.  An office worker saw it all from a window. He called out to two other men. They ran out into the street and, without hesitation, literally dove into the flames to save the motorcyclist.  SEPTA employee John Solecki and another man pulled the man from under the burning motorcycle. "

Let's be careful out there...  Cages fault but:  This was a crotch rocket.  Looks like he was speeding.  Not sure if anyone could have avoided this...   >:(

Unless there was more not shown on the tape the car ran and didn't look back.  That's someone I'd want to meet later.

Remember reading more than once before that the instinct for most is to lay a bike down on the left side.  Fortunately the two times I've ever had to one time went right and one time went left and each time it was the correct direction for the problem in front of me.  So I always doubted the lay-it-to-the-left instinct remarks.

This rider laid his down on the left side though.  Unfortunately that was the wrong side for the problem in front of him.  Not sure he'd have missed it and slid by if he'd gone down to the right.  Still like to meet the driver that seemed to have fled the scene.

Still some good people around to respond in these emergencies.  That U-turning idiot needs to be tracked down.  spyder

Good job to the rescuers.

I guess it was instinct but I don't see how sliding the bike on it's side helped. Seems the tires would have had better traction for stopping. The slide caught the bike on fire before coming into contact with the car, dragging the rider through the fire.

Mark (IronHorse) recommends in his class to keep the bike up.

Also, it happened to be an illegal U-Turn but still could have been an accident if the person in the car had suddenly made a legal stop for a pedestrian. The rider wasn't prepared to be defensive.

These videos are good for thinking through the actions.

Let's hope they catch the driver of the car.
