« on: November 17, 2019, 02:21:01 PM »

I'm selling a bike and the person from out of state  is putting money into my pay pal act., the person didn't ask no question , just said I'll take it ,and that he will deposit  the money in pay pal,  sounded to good to be true, just checking with ya all , is this a safe way to do it , could I get scammed somehow? thanks  :nixweiss:

I would not take a "regular" PayPal payment.  I'd ensure a "gift" payment.

It’s a scam...he’s going to probably pay more than you’re asking and then act like it was a mistake and request that you refund the extra $ or he’s going to pay you extra to cover the shipping cost and request you forward the $ to his shipping agent.  He’s going to send you a fake PayPal webpage with your account name and give the appearance that the $ is in your account.

DO NOT DO THIS IT IS A SCAM!!!!

I just bought a Bushtec trailer and the guy wanted me to use paypal.
I ask him for a purchase order and he said to just use his email address and it would deposited in his account.
He was charged a fee of $50.00 for a $1700.00 gifting service.

Usually yes but not on a big ticket item. Pay the fees and protect yourself. Just tell the seller to adjust his payment to cover the fees or price your item high enough to cover them.

It may or may not be a scam.  You don't know enough yet to know.  You do, however, control the transaction.  So there's no reason not to give it a try.

Tell the guy "sure," you'll take Paypal.  That is you'll take a normal Paypal transaction.  He sends to the address you specify.  He sends how much you specify.  He doesn't send more and he doesn't send less.  You're not sending anything back to him.  You're just taking payment for purchase as specified.

If the buyer is legit none of that is drama or soap opera.  If the buyer is trying to scam he'll start offering alternatives.  If so then, screw it, walk away.

I hate that man, I’ve sold several cars and a Harley online and probably 90% of the inquirers were scammers with similar type schemes. Another one to watch out for is the old vehicle history report...they say they’re interested and then request you to send them a vehicle history report from a link they send you. The link requires you to buy the report but it’s fake and they just steal your credit card numbers.  Good luck with the sale, someone legit will come along but you’ve just gotta wade through all the scammers in the mean time.  One good way to identify them is to require them to call you but they won’t do that because you would easily be able to tell that they’re foreign on the phone.

I never take PayPal on big ticket items other than a small deposit.  I have the buyer send me a check if they are far away and once it has cleared their bank into my account I release the item.  Other than that it's cash at pickup.  Good luck
