Infotainment issues
« on: May 24, 2014, 12:10:26 AM »

First problem is either my amp or radio is cutting in and out. Secondly when I turn the ignition on, it can never remember my last audio setting. For instance I always listen to my ipod only, but when I start the bike I always end up listening to FM. It used to always jump to weather band even though my alerts were off, now it jumps to FM????

First thing to do is to make sure your system has the latest software updates installed.  Harley is now like your computer and phone companies; always having to provide updates to fix the stuff they didn't take the time to get right the first time.  You can actually download the updates from the Harley website and install them yourself if you want, or you can have your dealership do it for you.

I have never seen this.  I read early on that some of the systems had issues but those were resolved. I would make sure you have the latest software and then if it still happens take it to the dealer. It could be a ground issue or the unit itself has a loose connection. I have hit some big holes, road in the rain, road in 20 degree weather and some 90+ weather and my display has been flawless so far!

It seems like if you are really pumping out the music, like 3/4 it sounds like it clips. On top of everything else, I'm back to the WB when I turn it on. I forgot to mention yes I have done the latest update.

Bought my bike last October, so it was one of the early versions. Infotainment has worked perfect until the last four days on a trip. Started doing the same thing you described. Plus, my mike quit working and was getting lots of static. Taking it back ot the dealer soon to check it out.

How do I set the FAV button to my music on my iPhone? It seems the only thing that buitton is good for is setting to the tuner.

When I read all the posts about the new infotainment system the first thing that pops into my mind is the "Not Ready for Prime Time" players.  This is getting to be ridiculous.  Every new item Harley puts on their bikes (new to them, not to the rest of the industry) makes it to the consumer with multitudes of issues, most of which would have shown up immediately if the MoCo actually did any testing of the finished products before they dumped them onto the dealers and customers.  Obviously it doesn't embarrass them at all when we talk about having to be uncompensated beta testers for them.

My FAV button works fine.  Just to verify that it is set correctly - tune the stereo to your favorite station/channel (tuner or SiriusXM) or playlist/genre/etc. (iPod or other device) and then press and hold the FAV button for a few seconds.  The screen will change and the heading will say something like Select Favorite or Favorite Selection or something like that, with a list of options below.  The top option should be the station/channel/playlist/etc. that you're currently listening to.  Press that top option on the screen or with the selection button on the right handlebar and your FAV button should be set.

Yes, that's correct.  The software 'Fav' button on the home screen gives you a list of 6 presets and the hardware 'FAV' button on the face of the radio takes you directly to the one favorite that you configure it to.

My FAV works as well and I don't have any issues.

Lucky for me no problems and hopefully I won't have any. I have been in the cold and now I will see how well she does in high heat.  So far the hottest has been around 92. In a few months it will be higher. If she gets through that I know I have stress tested her out. I expect her to pass!

Put the software upgrade on the memory stick that came with the bike, now it doesn't recognize the music and always gets a window saying sync failed. And sometimes the volume doesn't work, you need to shut off the bike and re start.

I have had the same issues with the radio.  I was at Sturgis when my radio completely dumped on me.  It wouldn't start and was hung with a statement of "waiting for navigation" on the screen.  I took it to the dealer in Rapid City where it was diagnosed as the radio was bad.  I had all of the symptoms that everyone here has reported: Cracking, speakers cutting out, presets disappearing....  Once they replaced my radio everything cleared up and I have no more problems.  Now if I could get my XM reception issues worked out I would be happy with it.

I did the hack listed on this site of moving the xm antenna outside the fairing and it is stuck with double sided tape to the vent button on the top of the inner fairing.  Reception has improved greatly...I only lose reception when lots of overhead obstructions...basically equal reception as I get in the car now.  Highly recommend it, and it requires no drilling/etc. so you can put it back later if you want.
