Title: Just got my Corbin solo seat
Post by: spook120 on March 14, 2017, 06:22:20 PM
Just got my Corbin solo seat. Noted it said for 09 street glide. Called Corbin and they said all the same up to 2017. My 2017 is waiting at dealer for winter to leave but was wondering if I got the correct seat?  Also any issues in mounting the seat to the CVO street glide? Thanks in advance.

You did order for the "CVO" Street Glide correct?  It is a bit different than the regular SG.  I've posted on this forum several times to order from Jim (hd-dude on this forum and owner of Metal Dragon in Hayward) to make sure you get the right seat for the right CVO and to get the discount.

If you end up with the wrong seat, I'd suggest that you call Corbin in Hollister (that's where all the seats are made, not in Fla.) and ask for Julio (pronounced Hulio).  He is the lead guy in the shop and knows the difference between a CVO SG and a regular SG.

Here's a link to mine being made for my 10 CVO SG.....excellent customer service if you can ride in.  Over the phone.....not so much.....   https://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=40248.30

If you want to spend the time going through all 49 pages of that thread you'll find many, many mods to a CVO SG but I warn you........it will cost you $$ before you're through the entire thread.   :P

Told them a CVO bike but doubt they listened. What's the difference in seats?

If I remember correctly (that was 8 yrs. ago).....it's the tongue.  Up around where the seat fits around the tank and the bottom part of the tank dash.   I've had a few seats made at Corbin for different bikes so can't say with certainty.

Are you able to take it to your dealership and have them try it?

Well I guess I will be on the phone to Corbin tomorrow...but after hearing horror stories about their customer service it is not something I am looking forward to doing.  Worse case scenario if it is the wrong seat and they give me crap, I will stop payment on my credit card. Should have just left the bloody bike stock!  Ugh.

So just spent some time on the Corbin site again...they mentioned under tech crap that the classic solo will not fit the CVO unless you remove the "decorative strips" on the rear fender...  Is that true if you don't use the pillion portion also?  I am not a happy camper.

You should be alright with the solo.  I put the Corbin solo tour which has a rear seat attached, and I had to remove those pieces, but they're just stuck on the fender.  I can go back to the stock seat and just re-stick those pieces back on.  If yours is just a solo seat it should stop before those pieces.

Hope so.  As I said, bike is still at dealer so I have not had a chance to try the seat fitment.  Hopefully I am getting upset for nothing.  Just don't like hassle at this stage of my existence. Thanks for the reply.

It said that about the strips on my '15 and it fits just fine with them. I even use the P-pad and install it on top of the strips--No issues

Thanks all for the replies and advice.  I will call Corbin tomorrow to see if there is a unique CVO application for the solo seat.  Appreciate your wisdom.

Most of the people that answer the phone are not going to know the difference between a CVO SG and a regular SG......ask for Julio.

Did you order directly from Corbin or from some other retailer?

Corbin says it won't fit, but it does.

Frames are the same from 2009 to 2017, so if it fits a 09 it fits a 17.  I ran the corbin solo on my 12 CVO Road Glide, then my 13 CVO King for a bit.  Both have those strips on the fender with the black rubber.  Then I ran it on my 15 CVO Road Glide ultra for a couple years.  I added the two fender strips with the chrome and rubber for that bike as I liked the look.

The seat my contact the edge of the rubber, but it will not hurt.  If you worry about that carefully remove the fender strips and move them back an 1/4 inch and there will be no contact.

Good to know.  Now have to see if I got the correct seat when I call Corbin this AM. I will let the board know what I find out...good or bad.  And It is actually my bad for not doing more research before the purchase and being more insistent about being for a CVO bike.  One way or the other it will get resolved, just depends on how much hassle it will be to get it right. Thanks for the replies and information.  Appreciate it.

Well here is where I am at with the Solo seat from Corbin.  Got in touch with Julio and he basically said seat will be fine... same frame between CVO and regular SG.  I knew that...  When I asked about the center counsel  difference between regular and CVO...no response.  So I guess I will throw the seat on the bike when I get it and see how it looks and rides.  Worst case scenario it goes into the classified section and I peed away $786.00.  Won't be the first or last time my dealings with HD bikes have cost me money!  Thanks again for the replies and advice.

Good attitude Spook.  But based on other's personal experiences with CVOs I think you'll be fine.

I remembered that there was a difference but wasn't sure what the difference was.  However, after reading their posts.....I do believe it was about the spears on the rear fender and that sounds like it's a non-issue....that at the most you may have to move those back 1/4".

woah, wait a sec.  what did you do to a solo seat to raise the price up to that level?

according to the corbin website, the sg and the cvo sg (as well as all other touring models from 09-2017) use the same model seat, hd-flh-9-s2 (for the classic solo).

I just finished 3k miles with this seat.  It is infinitely more comfortable than the 2014 Limited seat which way to much padding near the tank.

Talk about the Christmas Ballet about a anthropomorphic nut tool and you get the picture.      :smilie_staub:

Seat with Backrest - heated around $750.  Worth every cent.

Do you still have the CVO seat?  I just bought a 2017 SG and the original owner kept the CVO seat and I'd like to get one.
