Title: Primary Case fluid Level
Post by: Montanakid on June 30, 2019, 08:34:55 AM
Question on Primary case fluid capacity, 2010 Screaming Eagle 110 does it need 32 or 38 oz to fill at service time? Thanks

Harley's official specification is 45 ounces for a dry system (no residual oil in the primary, such as with a rebuild) and 38 ounces wet (normal fluid change).  In reality, you need to start with 32 ounces and then only add enough to make the oil level come up to the bottom of the clutch plates when level.  The 2007 and later Twin Cam primaries don't seem to drain as completely and consistently as the previous years, so you can't just assume you need 38 ounces and dump it in.  A higher than optimal primary oil level can lead to clutch drag.

I go with the 38oz. I figure the compensator needs all it can get

Put it to the bottom of the diaphragm spring.
