Can anyone recommend some bars for my Skunk?
« on: April 09, 2012, 10:10:44 AM »

Hi all, I am trying to find a replacement handlebar that will move my hands back about 2". I find I am reaching slightly forward. I already have had a seat modified which has done a good job but getting a bit more pullback on the bars might help.

I would like to stay with black as that is stock but would consider others. I did read that the Wild One bars might be a good replacement but the sizes have me a little confused as to which one(s) would work.

Also, I am hoping that finding some that work would accept the stock wiring/cables. Anyone else made a change or looked into this?

Thanks in advance   K

Bars are tough to choose and every one has their own opinion on whats best and whats the most comfortable.  I would recommend trying to loosing up the stock handlebars and pull them back a little more towards you for now. And during big rides, bike nights, rallies, and events, etc. keep your eyes open and if you find a bike with a set of bars you may like ask the owner of the bike if you can throw a leg over and see how they feel.  This will save you a lot of time and money trying to find the best set of bars that will have the look and fit you want.

Thanks Cory. Yes thats probably the best way rather than guessing on a new set that dont work. I did rotate the bars a little closer as well but still need the little extra. I was taking a long shot and hoping another 2012 CVO RG owner might have looked into it. :)

I do have the stock bars HD part # ( 55800171) and will try to get the dimensions as well as this might also help me find some after market ones.

Just a suggestion.....Heritage bars work very well on the Road Glide.  I don't think you  even have to change out the cables!!!!   Good luck!!

Heritage bars are good and no cable change is needed but I have found they're hit or miss with folks. For me it was a miss. The wrist angle was very awkward for me and it hurt after not too long on the road with them. I had them on an old '10 RKC and changed them out ASAP. I have not ridden my new toy yet, but sitting on it today the stock bars seem like they will be a good fit for me, but I have long arms so I can relate to what she's saying with having to reach forward. Hopefully just adjusting the stock bars will fix it.

Keep us posted.

Take a look at what I modified and then sent to a custom handlebar fabricator. I also was looking for 2" higher and more pull back. I did not like all the alternitives. At the end of the thread is the before and after mounted pics . They are 1 1/4 bars.............................................Fuzz

Heritage bars are what comes on the 12 FLTRXSE from the MOCO.

Every measurement as far as width, rise, pull back, angle is exactly the same as my wifes 2009 Heritage.

These bars have a 10 rise.

Thanks D  Thats good info about the stock bars as I just need a bit more of a pullback. I have them rotated as close as I can now. I am looking at the Wild 1 612 or 614 as I think they may come back a little more than stock. Also trying to avoid wiring/ new cables etc if possible.

other view from more distance,
the bar still can be modified and
no changing of cable necessary.

Fuzz.  you did an amazing job on your bars..  Not too many of us have the time or patiance to attempt customizing handlebars,  let alone finding someone who can.  She is better off just trying different ones out by asking to sit on a bike at some get together or something like that..   just my HO..  yours look great, I couldn't haver attempted that one either.  :nixweiss:

Those Heli-bars look awesome and look like they have a lot of flexibility to adjust. A little pricey for a one time fitment for me.

My husband had a good idea and we might order a set of Wild One Outlawz 12" and a set of 14" at the same time. Then we could mock them up on the bike and return the other set in the same box.

Anyone know if i would have to get new cables etc with the 12 or 14?

Thx  K

In my emails to them inquiring about their Chubby Apes in 12" and 14" they told me I would need new cables for both. Would assume same thing for the Outlawz.....
