iPod or not
« on: January 23, 2006, 04:24:25 PM »

I've been kicking around the idea of using an iPod for tunes on the SERK.  Anyone have any experience?   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Looks like the Griffin Airclick would allow for wireless remote control of the iPod via RF (radio frequency) which should allow for the control of the unit from the handlebars.

I bought a Griffin Airclick for my iPod (gen 5).  This thing is way cool.  The small receiver plugs into the bottom (dock) connector and the remote is a very small unit that even has a mount and strap to velcro to the handlebars.

Because it is RF (radio freq) and not line of sight, I can stick the ipod in my shirt pocket and have complete control from the bars.  Volume, on/off, play, rewind is all controlled by this little remote.

Note to the older gen 3 and 4 users,  Griffin makes a different model for the older ipods that fit into the top of the unit and not the bottom dock like my gen 5.

Do you have to identify a radio station to use the unit with?

If it's like the thing that I use with my Nano in my truck, you put it on a set frequency (station?) that doesn't have anything playing then you put your stereo on the same frequency and music through your stereo.  I also have volumne control through my stereo but not a "forward" or "backward" like I do on the Nano itself.

I use my ipod on my SEEG.  I velcro it on the tank dash panel and use a 10 inch stereo cable from Radio Shack to the jack on the face of the radio.  It works great.  I am limited by the battery life of the ipod and to change playlists I have to use the ipod controls.

It beats carrying a bunch of CDs around.

I only have the Ipod shuffle. The one thats as big as a fat stick of gum. I have 60 songs on it and a short cord to plug straight into the radio auxiliary jack. I stuck a piece of velcro on the dash and I just stick the shuffle to it and ride. Love it. I want to get one of those dash pocket things to toss it into, but the velcro works for now. I have XM in the truck, I cant remember the last time I listened to the radio. hate the freakin commercials. Die radio, Die!
