The sound from the speakers in the lower is better than the wing IMHO. I have faded the wing ones down and drive the lowers more.

Now that's what CVO is really about - owners taking motorcycles with factory unique features and personalizing them. I love what you've done and look forward to seeing other owners document the morphing of their machines. Super nice look for a beautiful Cherry Jester. 8)

Thanks EZ.
I know some guys can't understand why a person would pull apart a factory custom bike, but I feel the need to make any bike I own stand out from the rest and take pride in doing it myself. The CVO boys at H-D get allot of the work out of the way for ya, but they leave you things to do intensionally. I feel we are meeting their challenge.
I would  sooner have had a SEEG, but this was the year I was ready to buy, so I settled for an CUSE and basically turned it into a SEEG. Guys I know stayed away from these bikes because they were not aware you could make the tour pack quick detach. With the help of this web site and Jim at Hawg Wired, we know we can. There isn't anything I have done to my bike that a long weekend couldn't make it go back too bone stock again...that's the nice thing about it. IMHO.

OCD has been in my viens for a while. Here is a engine shot of my 03 RK.

I am dissapointed the MOCO didn't release any engine chrome for the new motors at the dealer show. My dealer said they may still come out some later on. Lets hope so. :2vrolijk_21:

It looks freaking awesome!! And the red is my favorite color.  Its the bike I wanted but couldnt afford an 07.. so I just picked up a used Autum Haze 06.
Good luck with her!!!

I won't take responsibility for retina damage, but you must have missed reply #22. ;D

I'm glad you like the console, I think it blends in nicely as well as adding to the SEEG look when the pack is off.
Part # 71288-03A, stock on the SEEG.
Don't forget that you may want to be using a short neck seat with this console to really how it off. The one you see on my bike is a stock RK custom seat. I found it to be about the leanest in the passenger area and still maintain the ability to use the rider backrest. I am planing on gluing a soft felt pad under the neck of the stock seat to prevent scratches on the console when mama goes on a long trip and we put the tour pack on. The stock seat looks HUGE with the pack off.
I have a badlander I will use for local rides or a show n shine...just three fasteners pulls the backrest hardware. Sometimes lookin good and ridin cumphy don't mix.  ;)

Hey JD, Yea, I missed it, some nice LED lighting from Jim would show that starter of better, be sure and get the remote control keychain with that LED set up.  ;D
Ive been toying with the idea of changing the tank console, and was planning on getting a corbin seat made to fit. I like the look of the pre'06 console's. I dont like the stock seat running half way up the tank, design flaw in my opinion, Thanks for part number.

Thanks to all for your kind comments, I appreciate them.

Robmay, The red boxes are the Hawg Wired amps. The center one is 150 watts and the other two tye in at 75 watts a piece for a total of 300 watts. The two small amps are called satelite amps....no, not to amplify satelite reception, but to act as alternately located amps. This system all plugs into each other. It is a very clean plug in system that has excellent instructions and is easy to install if you like wrenching on bikes.
I doubt that the factory amp could tye in and add another 75 watts (I think thats what they are?). Personally I don't think you need more.....lets see from 75 to 300 watts. HUGE DIFFERANCE!!!. If anyone is running the 2 channel H-W system, its time to expand that system baby. The speakers in the lowers make it. IMHO, they supply the best sound. I fade the wing speakers down to make the lowers stand out more.
hd-dood supplied me with my goodies and would be better able to answer your factory amp system question.
My suggestion would be to anyone thinking of going with H-W goods and don't want to do it all at once, MAKE SURE YOU ARE ABLE TO EXPAND......cuz yur gunna wanna.  ;).....BTW Jim, when do I start getting commission checks?  ;D

uuhhh..they're in the mail.... ;D

Seriously you would not want to run the amps into each other, it would not work as the signal is converted to a low level signal, before the amp boosts it back up. YOu could however add a 2 channel hawg-wired system into the bike and run the lower fairing speakers on it and leave the factory setup alone ::)

No, not exactly. What Jim was meaning is that you CAN leave you HK amp in place...run all four factory speakers....PLUS you can add the HW 2 channel amp in the fairing to feed an addition 2 speakers you would run in your lowers for a total of 6 speakers. I do believe that your fade will act as a front to rear fade and not a wing to lowers fade.??? Once again, Jim would better answer that.
BTW Jim, my mail box is empty. ;D

Okay. So the Wing and lowers would be front. But if I wanted to go with the 300 vs. 75 amps I can do away with the stock amp under the rear seat. Correct? If so, say you DID decide to quick disconnect the trunk and only have the lower and wing speakers, could you and if so how would you hook it up? Hope I'm not asking too many questions. :P

The normal scenario is that the factory amp is removed and not used at all. The HW amp and speakers are installed, and everything works fine, front and rear.

Things can get a bit more complicated when you throw the lower speakers into the mix. Normally, the lower speakers are being used because the TP has been removed. When there is no TP, and lower speakers are used, your Front is still front, but Rear becomes lowers.

I don't think trying to hook in the factory amp with the HW amp would be a wise idea, and would probably get pretty complicated. That amp is puny in comparison to the HW amp and I think with 300 W coming at you from the front, you'll quickly forget you ever had rear speakers.

Good luck,

Chief

I don't want to keep the factory amp at all. Want to change from 75 amp (stock) to 300 with the HW. Want to have the speakers in the leg farings and keep the other four (changed out to HW speakers too I am assuming). Then MAYBE (but probably not) have the option of removing the trunk for some rides which of course would remove the rear speakers. What would be the best way to hook this up (if even possible) to run 4 speakers when the trunk is off and six when it is on?  :drink:

If you were doing the 300 watt system, you would get rid of the rear amp and its harnes (to clean things up), make the tour pack quick detach. The new amps (like shown in my pic) hook up to the stock HK stereo. Plugs in real sweet. You have to do 2 splices and thats it.
Does this answer your question?

I'm not sure you can run 6 speakers on a 4 channel system. I'm sure you could have 6 HW speakers that would maybe have the lowers and tour pak ones on a toggle switch so that you run one or the other. BUT...4 in your face is better than 2 and then 2 in your back...PLUS I'm assuming mama's butt might be covering half the rear speakers. No offence mama ;D

If I may blunt, don't waste your time trying to do the 4 / 6 set up. Leave the rear speaker pods on for rear passenger controls, but forget about using the speakers. Turn the speaker boxes into cute little storage bins or ashtrays.

I honestly feel that after all of the work it would take to make that work out, the rear speakers just wouldn't compare to the front 4, and you wouldn't be happy with the outcome.

The only way I would want to do this, and I stress ONLY WAY, would be to contact Hawg Wired, and see if they can help you out with another pair of satellite amps and speakers, so at least it would be matched components, and not some hybrid system. This way, you'd be kickin it at 450 watts.  A side benefit to a six channel HW system is that when you turn it up with a rear passenger, since they sit so close to the speakers, they might just get the "Big O".

Now wouldn't that make it easy to get permission to buy the HW set up?

;D So true! Great info. My wife doesn't like the music quite as loud as I do. I only like to feel it if its quality sound which is why I am inquiring about this system. Its like heated grips in Florida.... may not use them all that often but when you do need em it sure is nice to have them! 450 watts and six channels............ yeah baby.

Chief

Interesting idea. I will consider doing that.  I actually do not use the front storages anyway so may be converting them the way harlez4me did is a way.

Getting some storage at the back for my othe half could be useful as well.

Thanks for the idea.

Guys;
many of the above ideas will work, and you can do a 4 channel and a 2 channel now but you'll need a home for the second amp. It could go into a Saddle bag or be on a quick detach in the TP to run the rear speakers.

Another option is to use the 4 channel for the fairing and lowers, have the TP detachebale and remove the HK amp, and leave the rear speakers functional off of the outputs of the HK radio, that way you will get some sound from the rear when the TP is on.

If anyone would like to discuss this more over the phone feel free to call me, or just post the questions. PM me for the number if you need.

I just wonder if the following will work.

For front speakers (4 speakers) the amps are at the front in behind the dash where the radio unit is. For rear in its normal place i.e. under the pak.  I am not planning to have the pack removable.  I will only have it slightly pushed back to give more room for my other half (using George's kit).

All this if I go with 6 speaker set up.

At the moment I ordered only 4 speaker set up and just started to think if I should install those 4 speakers in their standard place or following harlez4me idea and installing all 4 at the front.

hd-dude - will appreciate your views.

Who is the main point of contact for the Hawg Wired program?  Website or do we have a contact who is familiar with this organization?  Any discounts?

This is one mod I would consider AFTER I get a chance to hear what the stock system sounds like.

Are the HD stores familiar with these products and would you trust them to do the install? Or should I attempt to do this on my own  (That could be VERY risky ;D)  Anyone recommend a good shop in the DFW area to help on this install if I decide to go this way?

Thanks,

John

John;
I am a Hawg-wired dealer and can help you with any questions you have on the products. I have sold and installed many, many systems in many different configurations. Also site members do get a discount as well 8)

As far as the install goes I can let you know another dealer in your area that has done these. If there is not one I will be happy to assist the shop you decide to do the install for you over the phone.

It really comes down to what you want to get out of the system. The 4 channel system in the stock locations produces great sound quality and quantity also 300watts coming at you from the front is a lot of sound. Many feel they don't need the rears. For the passenger some rear sound is beneficial and you may want to have the speakers functional. This can be accomplished by either using part of the factory amp or adding the 2 channel Hawg-wired amp for the rear and removing the HK amp under the tour pack.

I like the rears as it gives a surround sound feel to it. I will PM you about the rest.

First of all as far as I am concerned there is no such thing as too much sound. I always ride in helmet and this results in a certain quality of sound that I can hear. Generally as discussed during the time of purchase the stock system is not good enough for me.

If I go with the six speaker set up there is no doubt I would want to have Hawg Wired all around.

Finally a question.  If getting another 2 channel amp where would it be installed if not under the tour pak? Again behind the dash?

Thanks

That sounds great.  It has to be good having a resident expert.  It is something I would definitely consider as some of my fist mods.  I just need to spend some time with the stock system to experience true MoCo sound ;D

Thanks again for the prompt reply.  BTW, what system would I get if I just stick with keeping the TP detached? My bike will hopefully be a 2007 CUSE.

If you just want the 4 speakers in the stock locations you would go with the 4-channel system. I would recomend the CX series speakers in the fairing and the BT series speakers in the rear pods.

The 2 channel amp won't fit with the other stuff in the fairing, you would have to install it in the tourpack or saddlebag. It is very small though 6.5" x 3.75" x 1.75".

Thanks. I will now have some hard thinking.  Probably will stay with 4 speakers and if I feel somehow unsatisfied will add another 2.

John,

hd-dude was a great with assistance in helping me get the HW kit installed. Phone calls and emails hd-dude was there for support. I did the 4 channel up front so I would recommend that if you can do it, you will learn more about your bike than the guy who installs the kit for you.

I certaintly did learn more doing the install myself and build up more confidence working on the bike to add in more chrome in addition to saving installation $$$.

my 2 pennies worth,

Big Dave.

He is the one and the only.  Absolutely agree. Except that for avoidance of big amount of extra spares I am not planning to take part in installation....  ;D

Well put Big Dave

"Learn to do by doing"  If you wanna do it, but are nervous, that means you CAN do it....with the help of many on this site. "The only stupid question is the one you don't ask." The people that DON"T want to do it, should just ride and pay the $$$$$ to the dealer of choice.
This goes with any mod, not just an amp install.

and that is MY 2 pennies worth.

Jeff,

I did not keep the rear AMP on the jester. I went with a new HW kit (amps and speakers) which all the new AMP's install in the front fairing.

With the AMP removed it makes the rear look so much better without the factory amp still there.

Ask Jim "HD-DUDE" to assist you with any questions on HW kit and pricing.
