Title: Nitrogen Filled Tires?
Post by: MJZ on November 28, 2006, 11:29:13 AM
Have any of you filled your tires with N2CEL, Nitrogen? Just came from the Auto service dept. and they are really pushing it. It is not expensive, of course their compitition (air) is free. Also since air is 75% Nitrogen, when the lighter oxygen leaks out of your tire, isn't it mostly Nitrogen left? And when you do need to top off your tires, do you just use regular air? Any expierence with this would be appreciated.

At every oil change,  I change the air in my tires too.  Just to make sure I always have fresh air in those babies....... [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

MJZ,

A lot of the racers run Nitrogen in the tires because it is more stable it doesnt expand / shrink the way air can / does.   Because of the nature of the Nitrogen, they can get more consistent runs / testing out of the bikes.   If your looking for consistency out of your tires it is definately the way to go.   They do not mix air / nitrogen though.   So if you had issues with a slow leak / valve stem then the quick fix is air then off to the dealer to remove the air / refill with the nitrogen.

Dunno almost sounds easier to just put in the air and check the tires a bit more consistently.

That thread's mostly about beer and helium. [smiley=nixweiss.gif] [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Helium is not the gas I most commonly experience after a few beers.

I would seriously have to question what my purpose in life was if I needed to fill my tires with Nitrogen to save a bendover...  I generally try to encourage bendowvers in my immediate vicinity, especially when....   oops, WRONG THREAD.     [smiley=oops.gif]
But since the air we breath is 75-85% nitrogen to start with, uh...    I believe that the humidity would have to be awfully high for it to make much of a difference at the temp's we run our tires at, don't ya think?   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I think I'm going to start looking for a place to inflate my tires with helium.  A little flotation effect for better MPG.  Longer times airborn after topping a good sharp hill or curb.  And your voice can get all funny and squeaky if you ever suck the air out of your tires!

LOL!  Just saw that one.  Maybe someone should test that gas in tires for stability and resistance to shrinkage/expansion?
