Title: Full GMR 113 engine build list. What am I missing or doing wrong?
Post by: FAST380 on June 07, 2018, 04:45:19 PM
Hi there, I have been collecting parts for well over a year and I'm finally getting around to doing an engine build. Can you please look over the list and tell me what I am missing or doing wrong?

I'm looking for a dependable, torque monster. Going to a 117 would be great, but I already have all these parts.

I bought the top end from a fellow member here, supposed to have approximately 2500 miles on it. It was sent back to GMR who honed the cylinders, had the pistons coated by Line 2 Line, went through the heads, basically brought everything up to Steve's standards and ready to sell.

I have a 2011 SESG with only 20K miles - I just don't find time to ride  >:(

113"

•   TTS Master Tune

o   Hand Ported SE 110 Heads
     o   2.120 Intake Valves
     o   Stock Exhaust Valves
     o   Bronze Valve Guides
     o   Beehive Springs
     o   95cc Chambers
     o   Static Compressing with .030 Head Gastket – 10.65:1
     o   CCP Front 206
     o   CCP Rear 203
•   Cylinders by GMR – Stock cylinders bored 4.6
•   Pistons – 7cc Domed Pistons – Line2Line skirt coating.
•   Rocker Boxes
     o   S&S Roller Rockers   900-4065A
     o   S&S Rocker Lockers ROCKOUT 001
o   Screamin Eagle Forged Rocker supports   17675-01B
•   Push Rods – Screamin Eagle Premium Tapered Pushrods 18404-08
•   Lifters – S&S Premium High Performance Without HL2T 330-0175
•   Oil Pump – S&S TC3 Oil Pump Kit 310-0641

•   Cam Plate Shoes - Zippers Red Shoe Tensioners   413-901
•   Cam – GMR 577

•   Injectors – Screamin Eagle 5.3 27796-08
•   Exhaust
     o   Fullsac DX Head Pipe
     o   Fullsac 2.25” exhaust cores

Still Need
•   S&S Crank –
•   Cam Chain?
•   Gaskets
•   Clutch - what would you recommend for a clutch?

I purchased the S&S 900-4065A rocker arms not realizing they offer 2 different models. Does anybody know the ratio of the ones I bought, and are they ok for my build?
Item #: 900-4098A – Available in stock 1.625:1 ratio or performance 1.725:1 ratio.
Item #: 900-4065A – This is what I bought, what ratio are these?

Thanks, Scott

What else am I missing?

Thanks!

I would recommend the Alto Carbonite clutch pack with the AIM VP95 pressure plate

I have the GMR 113 build, and I kept the stock clutch. I replaced the OEM clutch plates and discs, then added the Aim lock up set up, and no issues.

I started adding up all my parts and have gotten a few quotes on building this thing and I think I'm in sticker shock!! I'm sitting here wondering if I really want to dump all this money into the bike or not... I think I'm a cheap ass at heart  ;)

Did you do a bottom end on your 113 North Star? All I've ever heard is how bad the bottom end is. It's probably another $2500 minimum by doing the bottom end.... I wonder if I'd be this cheap if I hit the Lotto  ;D

It's $1500 to do the bottom from what I've seen. Talk to some who have done the bottom end, I myself wouldn't pump up the top again without doing the bottom. Some say not necessary. INMHO you will have a smoother motor and ride without worry about the bottom.  :nixweiss:

S&S crank is $1200 minimum, bearings or Timken, completely pull the motor, disassemble, reassemble, blah blah blah, I’m guessing $2500. I had one shop tell me they would knock $1000 off the build price if I just brought in the motor. Don’t know how serious he was or what he would say if I took him up on it. Any way you look at it, these things are expensive to build.

No, I took the chance not too. I figured it's a bunch more money, and for the cost of that plus the 113 kit, I would have considered a whole new engine if I were to spend that much. I don't remember the run out specs, but it wasn't terrible, even with 60,000 miles on the bike. I'm not too hard on it, so hopefully it will hold up.
