Service questions
« on: May 09, 2024, 08:07:27 PM »

IN the fall of 2022 I had the lifters and cam bearings replaced in my 2016 CVO limited as well as a 3 hole oil change. Shortly after that the bike went into winter storage in my heated garage. In 2023 my wife was sick so we did very little riding. LIke 1,000 miles is all.

My question is should I do another 3 hole oil change now after only 1,400 miles but it has been 18 months? I think I know the answer but am just being too cheap to tell myself what I need to hear.

All the maintenance schedules only mention miles, not time.

Thanks for the help!

I only change mine at 5,000 mile intervals…life often gets in the way of fun so sometimes I change it every year but most of the time it takes 2 years to hit the mark.  Last year I changed the inner cam bearings and tensioner shoes and noticed no issues within the cam chest or top end after 10 years of servicing this bike that way.  I say ride it until you hit 5,000 miles.  Now someone will be along shortly to discuss how doing this not only destroys your engine but also means you don’t love Jesus.

I am going to go along with SIKBIRD.  Ride it and change at your 5000 mile interval.  I am not a motorcycle tech, but I am a 40+ year ASE master tech so I have seen inside an engine or two.
