I was kind of hoping for something along the lines of ...

"If you use THIS mount - it looks STELLAR with the GPS unit removed"

All kidding aside (ok, most kidding aside) Kuryakyn really is missing the boat here.  I keep waiting for them to offer something that can mount where the GPS would otherwise be when it's not installed.  Some decorative dood-dad or chrome fob of some sort.  Maybe a battery operated digital compass, periscope mount; something.  Anything to hide the fugly factor :drink: .

Looking down at the tank at a GPS is similar to looking down at the tank at a map bag - neither one a good idea as far as I am concerned.

Possibly Harley will take a cue from car manufacturers & put the GPS on a little electric riser, with a trap door in the fairing for it to rise out of & then back into, completely hidden when not in use.  All with the touch of a switch.....

in 20 years or so.   ;D

Yeah ... it's a tough one for sure.

Ideally, the MoCo would re-design the batwing to house a 5.5"-7" lcd flat panel for GPS maps, but then you get in to violating the "classic" look and design of the batwing.

Unfortunately I haven't see anything that doesn't look "added-on" when it comes to GPS units. Although, when the GPS unit is attached, I think the Kury unit looks the most "integrated" of all the mounts I've seen.

Decisions ... decisions ... decisions.

It would be easy to redesign things.  Put the stupid small gauges into 2 into 1 designs, like they've already done with the speedo/tach combos.  Since many do not change out he "water gauge", it will easily pair with a decent fuel gauge- 1 needle up and one down.  Same goes for the Voltmeter/oil pressure setup.  You're not really looking to see if you've got 37psi and 14.2 volts, you're looking for "decent" pressure and above 12V.  Then you move the speedo and tach out some, make them slightly smaller and get rid of the current radio.  Now you've got space for a 5" screen to do radio functions and a gps, just like many existing setups already do.  You could fairly easily integrate the speedo and tach into this unit (as well as everything else- for that matter) and simply toggle through with bar controls.  You haven't changed the outside look of the fairing at all and probably gotten rid of a whole bunch of needless wiring insdie.

I like this setup for the SERG.  The GPS would be too far away if mounted on the dash of a Road Glide and this definitely solves that issue.

Is this what owning a CVO is about?

For the record .. if I need you to "let me off the hook", I'll throw you off my schlong.
Of course you could just go on the pill and not worry about it.

Would it be cost effective to get an additional fuel door and swap them out?

I can't see it being too difficult to switch them around from one to another if you not using the unit for a period of time.

I wouldn't suggest carrying it with you in the saddle bag....just a thought.

Not at all ... just saying there was no value in your post ... just as there was no value in my response to it.
It's all good ... just if you're gonna dish it out .... :drink:
