It's a fine line between being a Hoosier, and being a Hoser ...

I'm probably more of the latter  :)

I have one and like it.  I was dissapointed that the movable cradle piece does not remove from the gas door.  This would of made it look less fugly.  Also, the "standard" spacing for the four mounting holes did not line up with the four holes in the Rammount base.  It was way off.

Not at all ... just saying there was no value in your post ... just as there was no value in my response to it.
It's all good ... just if you're gonna dish it out .... :drink:

Now THAT is funny.

I'm a firm believer in that we establish "standards" not so we can adhere to them, but as baseline to measure our deviation FROM them.

Thanks for the chuckle ...

Not sure why but that reminded me of Mayor Daley standing in the main room of the Congress Hotel during the Democratic National Convention while riots went on in the streets of 1968 Chicago.  "The police are not here to create disorder, they're here to preserve disorder!"  ::) :2vrolijk_21:

Would it be cost effective to get an additional fuel door and swap them out?

I can't see it being too difficult to switch them around from one to another if you not using the unit for a period of time.

I wouldn't suggest carrying it with you in the saddle bag....just a thought.

I haven't seen how these hook up in person, but it would seem that it would sure be a PITA to disconnect the gas door, disconnect the wires for the GPS, put on the standard gas door, and then have to redo all of it when you are putting it back on.  I have lots of people ask me about the holder for my CB microphone.  Everyone wants to know what that is and I rarely have the microphone attached.  At least I had it chromed and it doesn't look out of place...but I still get the questions.  I would assume that whatever GPS mount you have, you'll get the questions about what that mount is also...whether on your handlebars or on the gas tank lid.  In fact, I would imagine that even with the GPS unit mounted, lots of people still ask what the GPS unit is.

This is the only area that the stock GPS wins.  It looks good when you are useing it and it looks just as good when you are not.

I have a 660 or 550 on my wish list but I do not have a solution for the ugly factor.  Ugly cables and even uglier when it is not mounted with just the bracket remaining.  There is not an empty bracket made for the zumo that doesn't SCREAM "What the h#ll is that for?"

the only brackets that won't be horrible are handlebar or clutch lever bracket mounted. Then it's only 2 screws to remove them when they are not in use.

I have a case on the phone with velcro on the back. I just pull it off and put in one of my RG's dash compartments. To tell you the truth it has to rain pretty hard because for some reason that area stays pretty dry when Im rolling.
