Truck Lite LED Install Issue
« on: September 06, 2012, 11:21:53 AM »

A while back I received and installed Truck Lite Phase 7 LED headlight and passing lights from Discount Fleet Supply. There are plenty of posts about their quality and about installation. I experienced a problem I have not seen on the Forum. The left passing lights did not work. The original light worked fine in the same plug.

I contacted Discount Fleet Supply and explained. They sent out a replacement, no questions asked. They did mention that mine was the first light that anyone had problems with.

I received and installed the replacement. It failed to work. I plugged it into the right side and it worked. I plugged the right side bulb in the left plug. It did not work.

So the left plug is obviously the problem but the stock light worked fine. Then it dawned on me. The stock bulb does not care about the polarity of the plug. But LED's are different technology and maybe they do care about polarity. Then I finally noticed that the ground pin in the plug did match the ground pin from the light. I reversed the pins in the plug and all is good.

The moral of the story is, if you trouble with LED installation do not assume MOCO configures their plugs correctly.

Makes sense about the polarity as they are a Light Emmitting Diode.  Diodes are dependant on polarity to function, or not.  Interesting post!

I assume that the MOCO doesn't do much of anything correctly and I have yet to be disappointed.   ;D

They worked fine on my '07 Ultra when installed a few months ago.  Glad you figured it out.  They work great together!  :2vrolijk_21:

I had a question for you Eagle eye, was there a reason that you didn't choose to go with the passing lamp LED also? How do you like the Head Lamp change out. Also is the color different that the HD or other version LED lamps. It describes them as, •Pure white light output is closer to the color temperature of daylight, dramatically improving light projection distance and overall visibility with a bright, crisp output I have been really curious about this. I know the other LED lights seem to have a blue hint of color to them.

Thanks

Jenady,

Did you have any problem with any adaptation with the Headlight or the Passing Lamps in your installation?

Thanks

Thanks for those pics... they are the exact trim rings I have and gives me an idea how the lights would look with them. :2vrolijk_21:

With the bulbs extended out further do they still seal up to prevent excessive moisture from entering into the fairing?

Best up grade I ever did ! I also installed the hd passing lamp switch so my brights and passing lamps stay on together which was about $25 at hd. If you install the switch do NOT follow the direction with switch and remove the outer fairing... You can install the switch on the right side of the switch dash by removing the two screws on each side..

The picture on my page is old.  I do have the LED driving lights now.  They do have a hint of blue, but not real obvious.  More white than blue.  Also the Frenched trim ring.  Looks much better not having the headlight stick out.

A quick question about the harness for the driving lights.  When I try to take off the faring to install the one I have, I can't seem to get it to release at the bottom.  Is there another screw or two that I'm not seeing?  I'd like to install this device.  I have the CVO auxillary manual and the regular owners manual and neither of them shows any detail about removing the faring.  I don't want to break anything forcing it off,, so thought I'd ask... :nixweiss: I'm sure it's a simple solution, but it's just not obvious to me at this time.

Did you take out all 4 screws?  There are 2 (one on each side) kind of hidden towards the bottom.

Under your ignition switch is your switch cover with your cruise , passing lamp and speaker switches ... The two screws one on each side with loosen that cover just enough to reach under the right side ( brake side ) to reach the passing lamp harness.... Un plug the harness and the new hardness with fit between the two connection ( one male the other female ) if you can,t see it , it may be attached with a hd hook the you can bend out to pull it down... I can take a pic Monday and post it if needed?

I did NOT remove the outer fairing... just turn the bars to left and you will see a hd hook with a loom in it... open the hook and just pull out the loom.... connect the jump loom in betwen and your good to go.... if you can't see or reach the loom you may have to remove the two screws on the cover which gives you a little more room even with the ignition switch not removed.... Good luck, Jax

Just installed mine last night.  Had the same "wiring" issue so thanks for the info about correcting the wires.  Saved me a lot of headache and time.  Ha anyone had to adjust their headlight after the install?  I have not had a chance to ride with the new lights yet so I don't know how they look yet but curious if any adjustment (and what the proper aiming technique is) is necessary.

Glad to hear it! All my bikes will have LED lighting from now on.
All the lights on my bike are now converted. Folks that have been riding with me for a while say it really stands out compared to before. Works for me.

I did the same dang thing with the right Passing Lamp.  After getting the 2nd one it would not work then it dawned on me to check the  simple + and - and it was reversed!
