Handle Bar Options for CVO Road Glide Custom
« on: June 27, 2013, 02:34:57 PM »

I'm looking to change out my bars as I find myself leaning forward too much for comfort. Any ideas on what I could look at? Any ideas on how I could figure out what I need? How far back and far up as a rise etc? I want to maintain the black .

Cool those are nice looking bars. How'd you figure out what was going to work for you?   The bars that Arlon Ness offers are cool too with lots of adjustments but at $500 they are too pricey, by the time your done you might as well say a grand.

Dont know how tall you are but another fix might be a different seat. I have used mustang seats for years , they sit you up a little higher and forward a little more. Works great for me and I use the stock bars on the same bike you have.
They make a replica seat just like  the one you have ( the stock one) also with a built in backrest and matching pillion. Again , sits you a little mor forward and a little higher. Might be worth a try if you are thinking about a seat in the future. If it works it would save you the trouble of changing bars etc.
They will let you ride and try as well , you are just out the freight.

You can take the guages off by the two little screws in the side of the cover, Loosen the top two handlebar clamp screws SLIGHTLY and "roll" the stock bars back to you a little. Just went the opposite way with my stock bars a little while ago and it made a nice difference. Only takes 15 mins of your time to see if you really need new bars or just adjust the ones you have.

I did BR Customs bars.  Pricey, but they are made to order.  I put my hands where I wanted them, did the measurements, and sent them the result.  It took 8 weeks, but man they are really sweet.  Don't forget if you go with Yaffes, you will have to change out the top clamp to fit the 1 1/4" bars.  The 13's are 1 1/2'.  I just had BR make mine 1 1/12".  I like them because they look thick and beefy.  Plenty of choices out there.  Good luck!

Depending on your height and arms you may want to think bigger then the 10" Paul Yaffee Monkey bars.

The original equipment bars are almost if not 10"

I was thinking I wanted 12", but I rode a road glide with 16" and sat on another with 14" Monkey bars.  I was comfortable riding the 16" bars but thought they might not be good for long trips.

I put the 14" Yaffee Monkey bars on my 12 CVO Skunk.  I have just over 17000 miles with these bars on the bike.  I love them and they are great for 600 mile days.  Almost wish I went with the 16" ones.

I am 6' 1" tall.

Actually just rolled mine ahead about 1 1/2", buddy rolled his forward about 3", was an improvement over stock, but a bit much for me, so started out at half
the distance, tinker from there. I find them to be a comfy bend etc, much better than my SG bars were...

I am also in the market and was thinking the 12" Malo Buky bars or the 12" sinister bars.  The question is what all do I need to buy? I want them in the 1.5" and I am riding a '13.  Any help with all the specifics and the best place you all have found to buy what is needed would be greatly appreciated.  As always thanks!

I have 12" apes on mine (6'2") that the previous owner installed (all chrome) and I wasn't sure if I'd like them.  I really like them!  They sit below my heart so no numb hands, etc.   Only big issue I have is you have to turn the bars to open the pockets, they are a traditional shaped "Fat" bar....the Yaffe bars won't have this problem.  I'd try and find someone with the sizes you think you'll want and try to get them to let you ride it or at least sit on one.  Just watch the width.

Sidenote:  Dealer that installed all of it is who sold me the bike.  Said the conversion was north of $1000 with all the controls, mirrors, etc.

I installed 14" KST Kustoms Mayhem bars on my CVO '13 RG Anniversary and love them!  They are really comfortable and I didn't have to change out the stock cabling.  That saved me $500.  My hands no longer tingle or get numb when I ride long distances.  I wish I had gone to the 16" but then I would have to change the cables.

Hmmm. 14 inch with no cable change?  I want the 12 buky malo but thought anything over 10 would require a cable change.  Also what about the bar clamp?  BTW both of your bars look amazing!
