Does anyone know if the new IDS comes in siver or just black? Thanks Billy

There's only one part number listed, so it is safe to assume you can get any color you want...(you know the rest).

The part works well, from everything I've read, but it sure is butt ugly...

For now it's black.  I was wondering if one of those chrome cover up things would work.  I'm sure HD will offer an add on in the future to get more $$$$$.

There's always spray paint.

Since they are also installed as standard issue on the SE's, you would think that there would  be a separate part number for those?

I had the IDS installed last saturday as part of the "elbow grease" promo.  $327 out the door.

It makes the 103 a lot smoother on acceleration , can easlily cruise at 60 in 6th . Only 400 miles of back roads so far, but I"m quite pleased.

Will be taking a long trip next week, it should be nice on the superslab

I  had the IDS installed on my 07 Rode King Custom SE last Friday and I must admit it made a big deference, the bike is much smother.

Cost $290 installed in VT.

I'm also going back to my stock mufflers.

I might be selling a dyno mapped power commander and two rush mufflers for a 2007 FLHRSE.

To many local towns are bitching about loud exhausts and the bike was a lot smother with the stock exhaust.

Or, I'm just becoming an old fart !

IDS should have no effect on 5th gear sound (whine) because it is a product of... 5th gear. I'm sure it's been explained before, but the 5th gear set are straight cut gears, as is 1st gear. If you stay in 1st gear, jocky the throttle a bit and listen carefully, you can hear 1st gear too. At least I can. Most riders don't notice or complain about 1st. because you aren't in it very long (usually) and the accelerating engine sound is a more dominating sound at this point. Anyway, all the rest of the gear sets are helical cut and therefore much quieter.

IDS only retro-fits back to '07 because of the belt width.

As the engine has gotten bigger (again in '07 for OE and even more for CVO) the power pulses become more noticable, not only to the rider, but the driveline as well. These long 'power-on, power-off' cycles, especially at lower rpm levels, create severe back-and-forth forces on driveline components... primary drive, transmission & final drive all have slop. Put your bike in gear with the rear wheel off the ground and move the wheel back and forth. You will feel (and hear) driveline slop. IDS (Rear Wheel Compensation) absorbs much of the 'slop-pulses' that riders were beginning to complain about.

IDS is not free to '07 owners and it's not free to '08 owners either. The increased cost of the new IDS was included in the price increase of the bike for '08.

I have ridden same model bikes with and without IDS, and some bikes before and after the installation, and although I was not particularly bothered by driveline chatter, my '07 is getting IDS, and I will be installing it.

If you go to Biketober-Fest in Daytona next week, check out the H-D demo rides where you can ride an '08 and experience the difference yourself first hand.

I believe the sprocket tooth count is higher on the 5 speed machines.

I agree, my 1st gear whines as bad if not worse than 5th gear does.

I have a mid range vibration that I can't pin down. I went back to stock today and I still have the vibration, because the HD dealer told me it was the exhaust.

Wrong I still have it!

Vibration could be crank runout.  Bulletin TT-324 is posted on this site.  Could be a new motor in your future.

Had the first ride after having the IDS installed and it is much smoother.  You can go down to whatever rpm you feel safe doing and it won't shudder like before.  For $2 in labor it was well worth it.  Now if the rest of the drivetrain was as good...

Had to take my SEUC in to have the rear tire replaced because of a nail (thanks to the tire and wheel road hazzard extended service contract, that won't cost me a dime).  So while they are taking the rear wheel off anyway, I decided to take them up on the "Elbow Grease" offer and have them install the IDS.  The service manager said he be real gentle on the labor charges.  I told him that there shouldn't be any labor charge to install it beings they are already pulling off the rear wheel for the tire change, and the $100 free labor from the MoCo should cover anything beyond that.  I'll give my impressions of the IDS when I get the bike back and have a chance to test it out.  If it's what some have said so far, there should be a noticeable difference.

Wow!  I did not realize that the road hazard extended service covered that.  I had to replace a front tire ----------- way too early cause it caught some debris off the road and when placed in a bucket of water sprayed like a geyser.  Thanks for the heads up, will try to remember that for future use.

As long as the tire still has "usable" tread left (I think the service writer said 3/16") when it happens, the extended contract will cover it, with no deductable.  It will also cover and replace the wheel if you hit something (not as in another car, but like a pothole, or other road hazzard) and dent or cause damage it.  As often as I pick up nails and/or screws in my tires, that was a "have to have" when I purchased the extended warranty on my SEUC.
