2005 Screamin Eagles
« on: April 18, 2004, 04:44:35 PM »

Has anyone seen, or heard what the 2005 Screamin Eagles will be? I would personally like to see the Wide Glide return with a 103 engine and dual disc front brakes. The 2002's were beautiful, but I don't think they went far enough. I also picked up the current issue of American Iron and found Harley has come out with a 120" kit, for racing only. What do you guys think? [smiley=smoking.gif]

The only thing that I know with certainty is that there will be an 05 FLHTCSE2.  The 120" would have to be de-tuned considerably, to get it by the EPA.  As it stands, no way, I believe that is why the motor is sold unassembled only.

But who knows, I've been wrong before..... [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

One would think following HD trend ( Ha Ha ) that it would unveil the 6 speed as a hydralic unit which at present is still unavalible.  [smiley=brood.gif] Seems they always improve alittle in the second year.  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I just completed an owner's satisfaction survey sent to me from Harley (with a  "form cover letter from Jim McCaslin, President), 18 months into ownership of my 2003 FLHRSEI2.

The really interesting thing was a separate survey page included on "choppers"....what I thought of them, if I thought they were a passing fad, how much $ I would pay for one, would I be interested in a "chopper" from Harley (with what I thought were inferences that there was probably one in the pipeline, more than likely to be turned out on a limited edition from their CVO division).

So....all the current "Chopper Fever" (Jesse James/West Coast Choppers, OCC/Disc. Channel's "American Chopper", Big Dog, American Ironhorse, et al), has obviously gotten Harley-Davidson's attention.....'BOUT TIME!!!!

I would look for a Harley custon factory "Chopper" being offered soooner than later, and probably churned out by the CVO boys....I just hope they're not too late and have missed their window of opportunity to cash in on this hot market right now.

I've been telling people for the past few months that Harley should come out with a chopper. I been looking at Big Dog Choppers and I really like them.  I guess we have to wait and see what happens.

I got a similar survey from HD that was asking me about the likelyhood of me buying an HD built chopper....I said very likely.... [smiley=smoking.gif]

Has anyone heard anything regarding a future Harley (probably CVO) Custom Factory Chopper?  We know they're heavily surveying current owners right now on their opinions of such an offering.

If they don't offer something SOON in this venue, I personally think they're going to miss out on the window of opportunity, which is really HOT right now with all the Discovery Channel shows on choppers, custom biker build-offs, etc.

Hey guys!  New to this board...saw my name mentioned re:  an o/b Electra Glide.  After all the hassle my dealer gave me, I said the hell with it and bought an 03 Hayabusa anniversary model to play with while still keeping my 03 SERK.  Anyway, I have a deposit on an 05 (different dealer) and an aquaintance who is an drive train engineer for HD said I would "be glad you waited" for the 05.  Wouldn't say another word.  Period.  So time will tell.  Just thought I would relay what I "knew", for what that is worth.  My suspicion would be the 6 speed, maybe the 120, but that is a stretch.  I just hope the colors are better than my "monkey pee" gold on the 03 (no offense meant for others who like the color).  Thanks for listening.  Spook 103

To JCZ - Global Moderator's previous response....

Question - why would Harley have trouble getting their new 120" motor past EPA regs, when S&S, TPE, RevTech, etc., offer as large and larger engines  - sold complete - as well as through manufacturers such as Big Dog, American Iron Horse, etc.

Don't these other companies have to comply with the same rules as Harley?

I must be missing something....?

it was once explained to me by a local builder that he didnt have to play by the same rules as HD because he only manufactures 20 bikes a year, this may have been DOT rules he was refering to not EPA i dont remember for sure, but in MA there is no emissions testing on a motorcycle.

big dog ironhorse and those othe companies dont make their own motors. i'm sure the rely on S&S to be EPA compliant H-D has to handle compliance themselves.

just my .02 cents

I found something on the EPAs website that if the motorcycle manufacturer has less then 500 employees worldwide and produces less than 3000 motorcycles it is exempt.  California law is slightly different in that the number of motocycles is 300.  I attached a link to the PDF file that defines it, see page 102 of the PDF file.

h2o you sure did your homework.  I was sure that it had to do with quantity of the manufacturer, but just wasn't sure on where the line was drawn as far as quantity.  Now we know.
