103 rocker plate question
« on: August 28, 2019, 10:04:26 AM »

Hi Guyz

If I remove my rocker assembly what do I need to do to reinstall. Are there centering bolts and where can I get some.

If you get "rocker lockers" or "rock-outs" this will take care of the positioning.

Pull it toward the intake and lock it down, then torque the bolts including the breather that bolts.

I am trying to get rid of  some noise and I want to remove my adjustable pushrods because they are hitting my tubes and put stock ones in. I still have stock cams and while I m doing that I want to check rocker side clearance. I also have rocker lockers. I got a tick that I have to find.

Using the rocker lockers the support plate is not really adjustable any longer, it takes the play out from being sleeved. SE tapered adjustable pushrods may help if the pushrods are hitting, any witness marks on your tubes?

Yes there are witness marks on the tubes and I want to check the end play on the rockers and make sure it is not more than .003 when cold.

The rocker clearance new is in the .010" area. You are looking for ghosts there to get rid of noise. The top tubes need to be opened up to 5/8" 1" down from the top, use the adjustables (another waste of time and money chasing noise to think properly sized solids are better). Use rocker lockers and you are done on top. The heads are stock? If not what is the spring pressure? Lifters?

Lifters are new (fueling lifters). I got tubes with the pushrods. S&S quickies

Ok use those and the other suggestions I posted and if it is still clattering,  the cam profile and/or springs are likely the culprit.

All stock other than air breather and slip-ons.

Good deal. You now know what to do to fix the issue and what will be the "feel good" items that won't hurt anything but won't address the issue either.

Look at the witness marks and the angle of the pushrod, different for intake vs exhaust.
