Title: 2004 SEEG, with not SERT or PC
Post by: johnnymap on April 22, 2008, 03:26:42 PM
Okay, my brother in law is looking at real nice 04 B/B SEEG.   It is priced under $20,000.  I told him a few quetions to ask of the owner.  The add says the bike has RH TD on it.  I told him to ask what kind of fuel management it had.  The comes back and says all it has is a Stage 1 download.  I would think the bike would have been running hot and lean.  The bike has 24000 miles on it.

What would be your advice?  Should he pass?  I know how hot mine was with the stock exhaust on it and what a difference a SERT and RH TD's made.

I don't know what the experts will say but I just purchased a 04  :pumpkin: with 32,000 miles. It had RH TD and only stage one and SE air cleaner and the engine is fine. To me it sounds like a great deal if it is good shape.

Under 20K and in good shape I would not worry about the lack of a tuning device. The stage 1 flash richens things up enough for the RH. Not perfect and not running at its peak but in a safe zone.

I agree with the others.  Bike should be fine but it would run better with a PC or SERT..  The first thing I'd do if he bought it were to open the cam chest and at least replace the tensioners.  Let us know what he does and have him join up and post pictures.

John,

There are thousands upon thousands of Harley's out in the real world that have nothing more than pipes, air cleaner, and stage one downloads, and they are no more failure prone than any other Harley.  I would definitely not make a purchase decision based just on the presence or absense of a tuning device.

I agree with Boatman; have the tensioners checked out ASAP.  He may even want to include that in the negotiations with the owner, if he hasn't already had them replaced.

Thanks, guys, I will pass the information on to him.  If he purchases it, it will be his first HD.

I knew you guys would have good information to give him.
